don't be so underachieving.....hope for a brontosaurus egg if you're egg hunting.

We're not egg hunting though. We're just watching other people egg hunt and giving our opinions about it.

If I think the 49ers will have a good season and go on to win the superbowl do I all of a sudden have a winners mentality or do I still have a loser mentality because I don't think the Cowboys will do well?

this team could go anywhere from 6-10 to 10-6. What you will see is a more physical team that punches people in the mouth. We are going to be the team that no one wants to play comes seasons end.

That was true about 3 years ago. For the past 3 seasons, however, the Cowboys did about what most of the analyst expected. Now that the Cowboys have a bunch of young talent playing in place of guys like Ware and Hatcher, the expectations are even lower...and rightfully so. I'm not saying it's completely impossible for the Cowboys to turn things around this season...just highly unlikely.

It is at times like these, you have to ask yourself why you follow this team to begin with. If you just love the game and the team, regardless of the results, you should be just fine. But if you are of the type whose interest hinges on championships, you may want to reconsider your fanship. The Cowboys, despite statements otherwise, are in rebuilding mode. If you have patience and the Cowboys brass stays the course with their recent brand of smart decisions, both in drafting and the type of contracts they are willing to give out, we should see improvement over time. It's a bit unfair to expect results this season, but for those who just simply love this team and the game, it should still be entertaining. For those who expect results this year, they may be in for a big dissappointment.

That's pretty much it. After a season with such an awful defense, it seams unlikely that the team could turn it around in just one year, especially with losing Ware. However, like you, I don't rule it out. Some Cowboy teams in the past have overachieved. The 1975 team comes to mind. In '74 the team had just had its first non-playoff year since I think about '64 and had a bunch of unproven rookies. Many were saying it was the start of Landry's inevitable decline. That team upset the powerful Vikings in the playoffs and went to the Super Bowl, nearly winning it. I surprise success season can happen.

I'm encouraged that Jones seems to have been making smarter decisions with drafting and signings than he did in the past. We needed Defense and he drafted a lot of defense. He didn't trade two 1st-round picks to get Ndomokong Suh.

Bill Parcell's first year as Head Coach in 2003 also comes to mind. The Cowboys had next to nothing in the way of talent, with Quincy Carter at quarterback, but somehow managed to make the playoffs with a 10 and 6 record.

That was a great year for a coach. And having the #1 rated yardage defense didn't hurt. Being able to stop the pass now and then really helps with the not-getting-your-heartbroken thing.

also managed to go 6-10 the following year then 2 season of 9-7 and 9-7 thankfully Philly lost to Det in the last game and we made it to post season and lost to the seahawks.

In 2006 we lost to the Lions in week 17 and then lost to the Seahawks in the playoffs.
The Eagles won their last game and won the east.

That proves what having a good head coach can do for you.

You don't have a losers mentality unless you hope for the Cowboys to lose to get a high draft choice for example.

One of the best coaching jobs in recent memory. But he still needed Zimmer's 4-3 defense that year to pull it off. A point many of us keep making. It's not just offensive efficiency that wins ball games.

As down as I've been on this team I have to say there's reason to hope that the defense might be able to make a big step forward this year. Granted there will be the need for unproven contributors to seriously step up and others to live up to previous expectations, but it could realistically happen. Contender level? I dunno about that, but greatly improved? Yes,,,,

This is perfect, we always do bad when we are expected to win but this year is different. I expect us to have a great year and win the NFC. Super Bowl is def possible.

Yeah right. Just wait till the regular season gets closer, we will be projected as the NFC favorites to reach the Superbowl. Happens every year.

Hoping for the best, expecting the worst.

By the way, bulletin board and psychological ploys usually don't work and have no bearing on whether you win. Talent and coaching do. And right now our talent isn't good enough to be talking playoffs, at least not on defense. And our coaching? Well, maybe things will change this year, but just judging by the track record, I aint expecting the 2000 Ravens defense or anything in the ball park.
