From the 50,000-watt appendage of free expression, plausible deniability, truth and the Armenian Way of Life, Air Cowboys America from Farmers Branch where we encourage book-learning, the metal arts and innovation in square dancing.
Who among us here has not been held another year in 5th grade because of behavioral, spastic, emotional or belligerent outbursts?
The extra year in 5th grade did absolutely nothing to help, right? Save to grow more of a mustache to impress the sexy lunch lady or to finally get on the cross-guard team, it was a wasted year.
So, too, the Cowboys head into the 2009 season that may be another on-the-job training for Wade Phillips and Stewie but one that will keep this Cowboys team among the also-rans.
By keeping Wade, Jerra has shown his more irritating side: stubborness.
OK, I call it pigheadedness.
It may be that Jerra sees something in Wade that the rest of the Free World, 95 percent of Cowboys fans and Caroline Kennedy do not see.
It might be that jerra has a heart that is bigger than his brain and he wants to give this sad sack of a HC an extra year to flower, to learn and grow -- to be free and to fly away to Super Bowl territory.
It might be that Jerra is uneasy with changing his HC only after two years and does not want to seem too quick on the trigger.
It might be that Jerra does not want to chance putting together a whole coaching staff during the very short offseason.
Render onto Jerra what belongs to Jerra. But beware the idleness of March.
But, dear friends, fellow Zoners and recent parolees, to me next year represents a year that will go into the annals and history of the Dallas Cowboys as a wasted season.
Under the lackadaisical coaching of the mild-mannered Wade, players next year will underperform. Again.
They will call in their practices and games and will repeat their underachieving ways. Why shouldn't they? They won't be pushed. if they win 8 games next year, so what? No skin off their backs. Excuses will abound. Injuries, a new OC, Stewie's latest wrinkles to the defense . . .
They will fear neither Wade nor Stewie nor even jerra, the avuncular uncle with a lot of cash who likes to take in the ouvre of the lockerroom and talk football in knowledge and insightful ways.
Nothing will change next year. We will play up -- or down -- to our competition. the Cowboys will get up for some important prime-time games and merely show up to play the weak sisters of the NFL.
The Cowboys will work (sort of) next year and what will they get? Another day older and deeper in debt. And they'll want more money and whine when they don't get it.
It will be a wasted year next year. A team in a holding pattern.
Waiting for a HC the following year.
And the following year will be one in flux. When the new HC implements and changes personnel and assesses strengths and weakness.
That will take us into the 2011 season.
And for those of you who think the offseason will be an eternity, wait until you have to wait until the 2011 season to see some benefits of a new scheme/coaching staff.
I cannot see anything happening next year.
These players simply do not fear nor respect Wade, and it will show in their so-so play next year.
Jerra, these players will age. Their skills will be ones of players on the descent, not ascent.
2009 will be our lost year. Our year of discontent. Our wasted year.
Wasted because one Wade Phillips promised to be a sterner father and change.
And because jerra believed him.
