We could actually have quite a bit of money to spend

spend in FA - though I don't think we will.

We are roughly $12mm under the cap as it stands.

If we cut RW, that about another $2mm.

If we cut Ellis, that could save another $5mm or so (I think)

If we cut B Johnson, I think we save around another $1.6mm.

And we haven't even gotten to guys like A Henry or restructuring any contracts.

As I said, I don't think JJ is going to spend on other team's players in any big way this off-season. Other than extend Ware, I don't think we spend much at all.

That said, it seems easy enough for us to get nearly $20mm under the cap.

I keep reading posts that say we don't have the money . . . . actually, we could easily have the money.

But to answer your question, I don't think JJ wants to spend much this off-season, other than Ware.

And I agree with him. Sign Ware and get some B-list FA's that can help provide depth.

Thats it; we're cash fat. The Cowboys are going to sign Ray Lewis, Albert Hanyesworth, Dockery, and T.J. Houshmandzadeh while resigning Ware and Canty.

That'd be a nice haul of free agents.....

Okay, Jerry doesn't want to spend the money but why keep the clowns that reak of stagnant complacency and status quo or under achieving play? At least churn the roster by getting rid of these trash bags and get some competitve depth in here.

1 more serious leader on defense would be nice. A guy with a tireless work ethic whether he's starting or not that enjoys working with younger players and competing to get on the field is all I ask.

Instead of crying to get more practice reps take the ones you do get and force the coaching staff to give you more because you're on fire. Offensively the lines backups needs to go other than Holland and maybe Free. Wish every guy on our line had Colombo's heart. Too bad he doesn't have the talent the others do with those knees. But I'm happy he's entrusted with our right side. We need more hard working bad ***** like him on this team.

I don't think Henry is going to start for us this coming season. Our top 3 CBs are Newman, Jenkins, and Scandrick.

As for RW, he's a 2 down player for us. He's a liability against the pass. Even if we keep RW, we need to replace him on passing downs, and we probably need to draft a better coverage Safety anyway.

As for Ellis, he's a situtional pass rusher at this stage. That said, I hope we keep him, at least until after the Draft.

If we can upgrade these players via FA, we should look to do it.

henry is our 4th cb at this point. if he could make the transition to FS, he'd have a shot but i'm not convinced he is physical enough in the tackling department nor the injuries department to hold up a whole season there. If the team thinks spencer is strong enough to hold up a whole season, i could see GE getting the boot. His mouth is constant whine and cheese. the guy is never happy and is aging quickly. we showed that we can play without roy. drafting a 2nd round S would be enough to replace him although i'd like to keep him if he'll restructure or take a pay cut.

The thing with RW is how much of a pay cut do you need for him to take?

How much do you pay a two down, run stopping saftety who also can contribute on STs?

We've got 11 picks, we're going to get 2 or 3 more with compensation picks.

Apparently, some extra cash will allow us to make a little splash in FA. Hopefully a vet ILB, SS, or NT. We can still draft those positions, but some bargain veterans wouldn't hurt either.

All I want in FA is a new back-up QB (almost a certainty), one DL - either a NT or DE, and one ILB.

Then we would be ready for the Draft.

A QB,NT and ILB would be all we need in FA.

I was just going through available FAs on the sportsline.com website, and I was thinking the exact same thing.

I think the only big money Jerry intends to spend this offseason on a player is on D-Wares new deal.

for me....i'd pay him whatever we would be charged to the cap by cutting or trading him.

AND THESE ARE HYPOTHETICAL NUMBERS:

for example: if he makes 6mil this year and we would gain 2 mil cap space by cutting him, i'd offer a pay cut to 4 mil because he would be on the books for that much anyway.
