Yeah, that's it.
It couldn't be that he was just awful at MLB, which is why he's no longer starting there.
He's getting spot duty, situational duty, blitzes, etc. Less thinking; less reading the blocks and sifting through huge guys to make a tackle.

Maybe he'll be a starting LB some day, though I"m thinking it may not be at MLB, but he was awful when Lee was out......that's a fact, and it's not "hate"

I see you're one of the last ones on the Titanic Chuck. Out there looking suave like Leonardo DiCaprio.

So your argument is "other people did good, so he can't possibly do that?"

I know that lame sort of post works on this board but, really, it's just rating "drunk guy at the bar" on the credibility scale

Nice try.

The argument is, good players USUALLY show something even as rookies. They don't come out of the gate elite, but they normally come out and show they will grow into an elite player.

Smith hasn't.

Are you even capable of thinking...at all?

Go ahead and provide me a list of "top 5 talents" that came out of the gate playing like Smith that went on to be a dominant player on the level of Lee and Kuechly. I'll wait.

Smith is ranked #60, and I think we can all agree, that's probably generous.

He doesn't seem to have that speed he had in college (who knows if he ever gets it back), he doesn't diagnose plays well, and his tackling has been lackluster. When he's not downright awful, he's incredibly unremarkable.

Going from the way he is playing to the superstar LB will be quite a leap. And I just don't think it's going to happen.

"The Top 5 Talents" out of the gate makes this a tough one. I can think of a number of players who were terrible their first year that went on the become elite:

Brett Favre was a trainwreck his rookie season but by the end of his second year everyone could see he was a world class talent. Favre, however, wasn't considered a Top 5 talent coming out of college.

Herman Moore stuck it up his first year in Detroit, however, end up being one of top WRs of the 90s. He went 10th overall.

Neither of those guys showed ANYTHING has rookies. Having said that, neither were considered "top 5 talents" in the draft the year they were taken.

I am sure there are more 'like that', however, I can't recall any who were Top 5 talents coming out...

If it's tough to make a list, then I'm guessing it hasn't happened often. Even I am having trouble coming up with names of guys with the supposed talent Smith has playing this awful and then suddenly becoming the superstar scouts claimed the player to be.

I'm sure there are outliers somewhere, but the simple fact is, going from downright awful to a league great isn't something that happens all that often. I also haven't seen many first top 5-10 talents recover.

I think it's a good time to start questioning if Smith was ever really a great player or if he got by in college on his athletic ability.

Jaylon's fat. As a matter of fact. You're all fat. Fatties.
Your name made me think what Jaylon Smith reminds of right now

It's the Tasmanian Devil........ he is all legs, arms and hips in a whirling dervish, out of control

When the game slows down he will be a force
