Wide Receiver. Not sure why....and I hope it does not come back to bite us. We also have high draft picks invested everywhere on this team except WR. What is it with this organization and that position? And when you consider the age of the proven players at that position it leaves me scratching my head as to why we continue to ignore it. It appears as if we are banking on falling into another TO like situation with a veteran superstar. That is not a sound strategy. I could see if we drafted Charles Rogers, Troy Williamson and Mike Williams in succession. I could see us being reluctant if we did that. But we don't even TRY to draft the position. I am sure a big part of that was Bill Parcells dislike for spending on the position. I guess time will tell if this is going to catch up to us...but it does not look good on the surface. And hoping Roy Williams, or Chad Johnson or Boldin fall into our laps because they are odds with their current employer is not what I would call a plan. And when your cupboard is as bare as ours is...you normally pay through the nose because of your lack of options. Tell me what you think Cowboy nation.

I still think it was a dumb decision not to go with a receiver in the 2nd round. TE was not an issue. There was still receiver talent left on the board. Jerry didnt help matters by still relying on Glenn and babbling his mouth about a "Wow player" that doesnt exist.

I guess you missed the deals we gave T.O , Crayton last year and glenn the year before. If glenn were healthy this wouldn't be an issue. Jerry has plenty invested in the position.

The WR we wanted in the 2nd got grabbed before we could move up to make a deal.

What do you suppose they do?

The only option I believe they have had is moving up in the 2nd round of this years draft, but at the time they thought Glenn was all but guaranteed to go.

If it were me I would have made a move for Malcom Kelly in the 2nd round.

Please dont blast me again for that

WR is a hard position to project to the next level. The coaches are high on the guys we have so they want to see how they work out before drafting one high. We have big money in TO and really how many teams out there have more than one top 10 WR and a top 5 TE. There are not many. We just can't have steaks at every position. Well at least until the salary cap is gone.

Forgive me if my numbers are off since I'm just going off the top of my head.

30 mil - Witten (TE or not) big receiving threat
45 mil - T.O.
14 mil - Crayton
20 mil - Glenn*

4th rd pick - Stanback
-------------------

I think that's a pretty significant investment...

Based on average contract value per year, Terrell Owens is the sixth highest-paid wide receiver in the league. Terry Glenn is 21st. Patrick Crayton is 41st.

I'd say we have some big money invested at wide receiver.

I've heard Sweed and Hardy.

I thought it was Sweed, but I could be wrong.

I really wanted Hardy, but fortunately we didn't draft him. Seems like he's trouble.

James Hardy from Indiana was the guy that Jerry said he tried to move up in the 2nd round to get but the draft room overruled him on the vote

I think you have not payed any attention to what we are paying our receivers.

One of the bigger problems for the season last year was ultimately the lack of consistent play from the #2 WR, let alone #3...Sounds like that will still be a question mark going into the season, again...So, yes, I agree this is the one area that got the least attention...And seeing that it was such a concern last season, it does make you scratch your head a bit...More reason, I suspect, that something may still happen before the season starts (Also hinged on what happens with TG).

The positions we don't have money locked up in the ones our a DL

WR has gotten its pay day, From Owens, to Crayton, to Glenn, to drafting a WR that was panned to be a first day pick.

We have invested in this group.

Well, I believe he meant draft picks invested, not money.

Fact is, it has been ignored with the draft in mind, so of course we will pay out the nose to keep them.

But then the question becomes why?

Maybe there has not been great talent at the places we were drafting.

Maybe there just was not great talent in the drafts.

Maybe there were greater needs than WR

you guys forget, starting from 2003 we had huge holes all over the roster, but we had galloway, and Glenn. Then we had Key and Glenn, and while they may not have been top notch, they were serviceable for what we wanted to do. Our splash into the WR began when we signed TO, then turned around and drafted Stanback.

We've just had too many holes over the years to get to WR, espically since we've had vetrans coming in and doing a good enough job.
