We have to pass the ball early, and on first, on Sunday

The Eagles are making it clear they are going to work to shut down Murray early on Sunday... we HAVE to make them pay for that and remind them that we have the QB with the #2 QB rating in the league, #2 completion % in the league, #2 YPA in the league, etc., and a star WR and one of the best TEs to ever play the game. This is not to say we should abandon the run, but we should use the pass to set up the run, which we didn't try to do on Thanksgiving. When we are running it on first every single time when there are 12 in the box, bad things happen. DON'T DO THAT. Make them take players out of the box, or make them pay. Let's get 150 yards on 25 carries instead of 75 carries.

P.S. http://www.***BANNED-URL***/sports/...-we-re-not-going-to-let-them-run-the-ball.ece yea they want to shut down Murray but we have some much more than that.

Every team tries to shut down Murray. I don't disagree that we need to change some things up, but I'm ridding the Murray pony and making Philly walk the talk.

The problem is it seems we run the ball like 98% of the time on first down in the first quarter. This has lead to teams knowing exactly what we are going to do, which in turn has lead to slow starts for us in several games. If we have a slow start against the Eagles, the game is over just like it was last time.

Going pass-happy in December, frigid windy outdoors?

That screams run-the-ball.

Here are the 1st down runs from the Thanksgiving game:
1st Half: 4, 3, 2, 3, 5, 2, 3, 4, 8, 4
2nd Half: 9, 6, 9, 14, 9

Positive yards every time, and pretty effective, even if we only look at the 1st half.

I agree that if they want to sell out to stop the run on 1st down, we need to burn them with the pass. But 1st-down running wasn't the problem with the offense on Thanksgiving.

Well we certainly need to pass a hell of a lot more than we did last time against the Eagles (well before it was too late). If this is going to be another run-run-pas game, I don't see us putting up enough points.

A lot of runs there of 3 yards or less in the first half, 3 straight plays of 3 yards = punt. Outside of that 8 and 5 we didn't have 3 straight run plays that added up to 10 yards anywhere. The second half sort of proves my point, because then they were taking guys out of the box and we were running it for big yards, but by then it was too late.

I hear what you are saying, but I don't want them them to stray to far from what has worked for them this season. This team likes to run early so that they can have manageable 3rd down distances. Possessions can get away from you in a hurry when you go 2nd or 3rd and 10.

I really liked what I saw last week against the Bears. Throwing it to the backs early is a low risk way of gnawing at the 3rd down distance the same way the running game does w/o being overly predictable series after series. I would like to see a little more play action on 1st down and take a few shots down field to keep them honest.

But other than that don't stray to far away from who you are just because you had a bad game. No one played as well as they should have last time. You can't panic and change your philosophy based on the worst case scenario. Just do what you do better than they do what they do. The offensive line has to play with a mongo attitude this game ... and I believe they will.

If the big boys in the trenches play like I think they will it should take a lot of pressure off that defense. I don't expect Mark freaking Sanchez to play like Tom Brady again. It's time for a reality check there. Stack the run, contain McCoy, and then take your chances with Sanchez all day every day and twice on Sunday night.

Yea because we have a QB that has never played in the cold before right? *coughBurlingtonWisconsincough* I agree if the weather is horrible, like it could very well be, we need to run the ball more, but running the ball when they have 13 guys in the box (they just added one because of how predictable we are) isn't going to net good yards.

We just need to score early and often. Don't care whether it is from passing, running or hop-scotching it across the plane!

In 8 of our games this year we have scored 3 or fewer points in the first quarter. Yes the run game pays dividends later on, but it hasn't worked at all early in more than half of our games. This in turn really puts pressure on your defense early. I don't like the idea of putting pressure on THIS defense early against the Eagles.

This is the one game where I wouldnt mind using the passing game to set up the running game. I dont care if its in the first play, on first down, or in the first series, but somewhere in the first quarter, I want to see a long ball to Terrance Williams. Let the defense know he's there and consistently send him deep or across the middle to challenge their secondary.

If we can get their offense off the field, their defense will be exposed and you know how Murray starts breaking those runs in the second half against a tired defense.

Due to how much they blitz, I think Romo should have more 3 to 5 step drops so that he can get rid of the ball quicker. I'd also like to see DM29 and Dunbar catch have 5-7 passes (total) thrown their way. Let's see if their LBers can cover.

We see what they come out doing. If we get the ball first I'm opening up with PA. If they score first then I go with my gut.

exactly the wrong game plan to have. We are a run first team and changing that week 13 is asinine! Run the ball early and often, period! Romo is just fine being 2nd fiddle and our record shows.

We are a score 3 points or less in the first quarter team... do you think we can survive that this week? I am not saying don't run the ball. I am saying get our 150 yards on 20 carries not 50 carries.

We are a 9-4 team our run first philosophy! 50 plus runs have made our team better, not passing. If you haven't realized yet, this is four quarter game. 3 points in the first is just fine with me the way the season has unfolded! Murray's legs are more.important than Romo's arm!
