We may have a formula to slow Aaron Rogers

We aren't going to stop Aaron Rogers. It's unlikely the Dallas defense will hold Green Bay under 24 or 28. However since our offense should be able to move the ball...we can win the game by forcing four or five punts and limiting the damage in the red zone.

Curiously we may have inadvertently discovered a formula to slow Rogers during the Lions game. I speak of what Marinelli did out of necessity during that Detroit game because of injuries. Dallas lacked healthy defensive linemen and we were forced to rush just three down linemen.

Our defense was wildly successful when employing this scheme and was able to generate even more pass rush than earlier in the game. We also could occasionally drop back and saturate the zone.

Rogers is simply too nimble for most defense linemen. Even when rushers get past the Packers very good pass blockers...these defenders are too often helpless to close the deal and make a sack. The packer quarterback is athletic and makes it look easy sidestepping and dodging most 270 pound defenders.

If we rush 3 big guys but blitz random linebackers or cornerbacks I suspect we can keep Aaron from extending plays like he is so apt to do. We can bring quicker attackers to close on Aaron and close him out. Yes we may be a bit more vulnerable to the run game, but the plan of attack should be the head of the snake and that snake is Rogers and those extended plays.

Agreed. The Dallas running game should limit offensive opportunities for Green Bay.

With the return of both Brown and Claiborne, and much healthier and rust from Church and Scandrick...I think the team is adequate in pass coverage. They just can't let a tight end go for another 100+ yards though.

its probably going to be a shootout. but general Sean Lee will have the troops ready on his side of the ball.

on offense.... run game and TOP helps to keep Rodgers off field as much as possible.

styles make matches and we match up well with them.

Rogers will play much better than he did in our first game. He was flat misfiring and he stopped doing that 8 weeks ago.

On a hopeful note I recall Troy talking during our first encounter about how good our coverage was. We'll need good secondary play but we just can't let Rogers enjoy five and seven and ten seconds to throw the ball. I believe employing speedier rushers (linebackers, safeties, even corners) is the key.

Maybe that and the long arms of the law (Irving's wingspan) can snatch Rogers a time or two.

Not scared of Rodgers at all because our Cowboys will be ready to "finish this fight". We will win.

I just hope they don't try and go hurry up offense on our defense.

If I remember correctly, the first time we ran that 32 defense this season was at Lambeau Field against Rogers.

Also, If I remember correctly, it did stymie him a bit. They'll probably be prepared for it.

Ah...your a step ahead of me. I don't recall that. Whether the Pack prepares for it or not...I like the scheme against Aaron. He's so tough for most linemen to corral.

I like the fact Marinelli has a lot of experience preparing for the Packers. Detroit and Chicago had to get ready for it twice per season.

In your previous post you said it will probably be a shootout so you must have some fear of Rodgers and Dak being a rookie QB is going to have a tough time going toe to toe with him in a shootout, especially the Aaron Rodgers we saw today.

good points. let me explain...

i said it "will probably be a shootout"

their only game is their offense. not defense.

our game is our offense and an emerging defense.

so i think our defense will temper their offense more so than their defense will temper on our offense.

yes we have rookies at important positions but they have an elite foundation. these rookies arent just any rookies though. they have ice water in their veins.

That is an unknown if Jordy Nelson doesn't play. And Rodgers will go against a healthy secondary unlike the 1st game when Scandrick was out. DaK didn't have Dez that game. And Zeke rushed for 157 yds. Not only do they still have to stop Zeke, but our full wr group.

Not this fan...Dak has earned the respect the old fashioned way...by being top shelf and in a season's worth of wins.

How many once in a life time rookie all time records did the man set? He was high up in value for any starter in the NFL as well. The 'rook' has bluntly, earned it.

I like our DBs vs their era in this one. Brown on Cobb should be good.

On offense if we play our game I think we'll move the ball well. That's not the focus of my post.

In recent weeks the Packers have scored 38 on on New York, 38 on Seattle, 38 on Minnesota. That's 3 top defenses. I think it's good to look at how to approach defensing them little differently.

Jordy's departure didn't slow them much at all today. They have weapons. In game 1 Claiborne was healthy and played very well. It's unlikely we'll get much or anything from him. I think our secondary is capable but will need a little help from the pass rush.

The Cowboys may be able to run the 32 defense as their base in this game. Without Lacy and Montgomery hobbled, the Packers arent going to be bullying anybody in the trenches.
