We may have a formula to slow Aaron Rogers

On offense if we play our game I think we'll move the ball well. That's not the focus of my post.

In recent weeks the Packers have scored 38 on on New York, 38 on Seattle, 38 on Minnesota. That's 3 top defenses. I think it's good to look at how to approach defensing them little differently.

Jordy's departure didn't slow them much at all today. They have weapons. In game 1 Claiborne was healthy and played very well. It's unlikely we'll get much or anything from him. I think our secondary is capable but will need a little help from the pass rush.

But those teams don't have the running game we have to keep Rodgers off the field. (our time of possession) And you know this how that we won't see Claiborne in dime packages?

good points. let me explain...

i said it "will probably be a shootout"

their only game is their offense. not defense.

our game is our offense and an emerging defense.

so i think our defense will temper their offense more so than their defense will temper on our offense.

yes we have rookies at important positions but they have an elite foundation. these rookies arent just any rookies though. they have ice water in their veins.

We're not a big play offense and the Packers are because Rodgers can strike from anywhere on the field. He's a TD throwing machine and Dak isn't there yet. Great rookie year but we have a chain moving offense that heavily features Beasley and Witten. I could see us winning a 27-20 game but if it takes over 30 to beat the Packers that reduces our odds because it will put too much on Dak's plate in my opinion.

The only way our defense is going to temper their offense with the Rodgers we saw today is to limit their offensive opportunities with ball control. Wear them down, get them behind and hope we can contain Rodgers. Once he gets into a groove he can shred you like what he did to the Giants today. He put up 362 yards and 4 TD's on the Giants defense in single digit temps. Hard not to be a little discouraged watching his performance today.

All Dallas has to do is keep him in the pocket and let him have those quick passes. If our ends don't play to contain and he gets outside.......it will be a long day. AR in the pocket = good QB but an AR outside the pocket = best in the NFL.

Aside from that, just win the TOP and get TD's rather than FG's. Dallas will probably need to play a mistake-free game if it gets too high scoring.

Posted this yesterday, had a hunch what might happen to the Giants and what we could be facing.

If Rodgers carves up the Giants defense for 3-4 TD's and we have to face him in perfect dome conditions, Dak may have to out duel Rodgers in a shootout and he's likely to get shot down. Rodgers won his only championship in our stadium gunning down Roethlisberger. Zeke is going to have to run wild because rookie QB's have failed in the playoffs mainly because games were put in their shoulders and they crumbled under playoff pressure.

The Packers are riding a 7 game winning streak and have lost only one game this season where they scored 30 or more. They're 5-1 in games they scored 30 or more. We're going to have to win the time of possession battle. We have to keep Rodgers off the field as much as possible, especially to try and keep our defense fresh for the 4th quarter. A 4th quarter pass rush is a must against Rodgers.

A formula...let's see, it's too cool for pickle juice.

Substitute Zeke, and Run Forrest...Run!

Yeah, as Lil dumb wayne said its up to 12 gauge.

He's the only way they can win. And we do something stupid like not give Zeke 30+ touches. If we are behind, throw him the ball. Run a wheel route.....he just needs the ball regardless. If we lose and Zeke gives us those touches, I will fist bump them and say good game.

I just don't make bets I can lose, feed Zeke by any means necessary.

Marinelli seems to have a pretty good idea on how to slow rodgers down. has faced him for years (bears, lions)

itll come down to execution. can our DL keep AR in the pocket and hit him often?

We will have Dez for this game, unlike last game, it will only help our time of possession. And Zeke still had 157 yds with no Dez for them to worry about.

We'll have to see if Dez shows up. We're going to be facing the hottest team and QB so he better show up. Some of our better games this season were without him including the Packers game. He gets so frustrated at times he can be a distraction.

If I remember correctly Zeke had 157 yards last time we saw them with Dez not on the field.
As a chemical engineer, thats your formula.

Funny thing about football...both teams get the same number of possessions per game. Zeke doesn't change that math one bit.

3 teams (Us, Titans, Deadskins) that blew them out (won by 2 TD or more) this year have one thing in common. All three teams ran well against them.

Zeke (157 yards, 28 carries) and R.Kelly(137 yards, 24 carries) ran for more than 5.5 yards a pop and Demarco (123 yards, 17 carries) had 7+ yard per run average.

That tells me, all three teams were probably able to eat up clock and keep the ball away from ARod.

With our offense and Zeke, how much time of possession will GB have for Rodgers to be the hottest qb? And it's not like Dez is gonna face the Giants secondary. GB is beat up there.

Sure. But can their d stop Zeke and with Dez back compared to our fully healthy d and secondary vs GB with no running game and most likely no Jordy Nelson? Yes GB is deeo even without Jordy, but they don't have the speed burner like the Giants Beckham who kills us.

Actually not true but I see your point. Running the ball doesn't make as much of difference in today's football statistically. But if your on the field, it does.

It's all going to depend on what kind of game Zeke has. The Packers and Rodgers are clearly playing better than they were when we played them in week 5 and they're going to do everything they can to stop Zeke and put the game on Dak. Dez has been up and down this season and his role is different with Dak at QB. He's got to get open for Dak because he spreads the ball around and throws to the open receiver. We may have to take some chances with Dez on Sunday because we're going to have to put up some points. He has put up 8 TDs this season.

Things change in the playoffs of course. They will put 8 men up there and dare Dak to beat them. That's up to Dak, really.

Guess that's why we watch the games. But we will definitely see what Dak's made of, real quick.

Walk me through it bro. How does one team get two possessions in a row?
