We may have a formula to slow Aaron Rogers

We aren't going to stop Aaron Rogers. It's unlikely the Dallas defense will hold Green Bay under 24 or 28. However since our offense should be able to move the ball...we can win the game by forcing four or five punts and limiting the damage in the red zone.

Curiously we may have inadvertently discovered a formula to slow Rogers during the Lions game. I speak of what Marinelli did out of necessity during that Detroit game because of injuries. Dallas lacked healthy defensive linemen and we were forced to rush just three down linemen.

Our defense was wildly successful when employing this scheme and was able to generate even more pass rush than earlier in the game. We also could occasionally drop back and saturate the zone.

Rogers is simply too nimble for most defense linemen. Even when rushers get past the Packers very good pass blockers...these defenders are too often helpless to close the deal and make a sack. The packer quarterback is athletic and makes it look easy sidestepping and dodging most 270 pound defenders.

If we rush 3 big guys but blitz random linebackers or cornerbacks I suspect we can keep Aaron from extending plays like he is so apt to do. We can bring quicker attackers to close on Aaron and close him out. Yes we may be a bit more vulnerable to the run game, but the plan of attack should be the head of the snake and that snake is Rogers and those extended plays.

Make no mistake... GB is a different team. They are hitting on all cylinders offensively now. They weren't before.

But our pass rush is a thousand times better.. and GB better take note or Irving, Mayowa, and McClain will bury Rodgers. I think that 3 man rush is going to wreak havoc. And 8 guys out there covering 4 or 5, makes it tough on a QB.

We win this game if Irving, Mayowa, and McClain have great games. Simple as that.

We're not a big play offense and the Packers are because Rodgers can strike from anywhere on the field. He's a TD throwing machine and Dak isn't there yet. Great rookie year but we have a chain moving offense that heavily features Beasley and Witten. I could see us winning a 27-20 game but if it takes over 30 to beat the Packers that reduces our odds because it will put too much on Dak's plate in my opinion.

The only way our defense is going to temper their offense with the Rodgers we saw today is to limit their offensive opportunities with ball control. Wear them down, get them behind and hope we can contain Rodgers. Once he gets into a groove he can shred you like what he did to the Giants today. He put up 362 yards and 4 TD's on the Giants defense in single digit temps. Hard not to be a little discouraged watching his performance today.

Yeah but A. The clock ticks down on both teams equally. So if we are a control team, then Rodgers is on the sideline and doesn't get the chances to put up 35 points. B. Dak stepped up and started putting the ball down the field more the last few games. And was very good at it. C. I'm still convinced Romo is gonna be involved in the game plan some how. If and when he jogs out, I'm gonna lose my mind with happiness. Rodgers wants to gunsling.. let me introduce you to Tony Romo..best gunslinger in football.

The formula is having a top 10 offense. GB hasn't beaten a team with a top 10 offense this year.
We need to convert 4th downs and not settle for field goals - NY left a lot on the table in the 1st half and their defense eventually got worn down.

QUOTE="T-RO, post: 7147936, member: 23598"]If one team scores on a precision 12 play drive...and the opponent scores turns around and scores in 3 plays...I'm not sure who is more demoralized.

Well that's easy T RO
It's the fans of the team that gave up the three play drive!
:p
TOP is great but only if you score 6 at the end of the drive

everyone forgets GB has Capers as DC and he will come up with some things to slow dallas too.
So dont just think GB offense, the defense may give them problems too.
gonna be a tuff game.

what they do to slow the run game is bring a DB to get the RB in the backfield. this might work sometimes but is very risky against zeke.

Run run run. The less Rodgers has the ball the less they can score. We need to have the ball 40 mins of this game.

Yeah, but GB knows that and will stack the box 8-9 strong. Dak will have to throw to beat them IMO. He can and will do it. 30-24 Dallas.

The Packers are riding a 7 game winning streak and have lost only one game this season where they scored 30 or more. They're 5-1 in games they scored 30 or more. We're going to have to win the time of possession battle. We have to keep Rodgers off the field as much as possible, especially to try and keep our defense fresh for the 4th quarter. A 4th quarter pass rush is a must against Rodgers.
This might be a game where it makes some sense to go for it on 4th down whenever we are past the 50-yard line. If we punt, Aaron Rodgers will have them past that point in 2 plays. Our best chance is to be great in the red zone and hold them to field goals as often as possible but we must keep the chains moving at all cost and going for it on 4th down increases those odds.

Our offense is capable of playing with and beating anyone.

This game is going to come down to our defense. If our defense continues to rise up, we will win. ..and win the rest of them.

We need guys like Sean Lee and Maliek Collins and David Irving to play the best games of their careers. This is the time for guys like Brown to lock down the CB spot and surpass ALL expectations.

If things come together on defense like they've been hinted at all year, this team could roll on to the superbowl.

I suspect Nelson will be either limited or unavailable for our upcoming game w/GB. That should help to some extent but it will also be up to Marinelli to find a way to make our pass rush more effective. Whether we go with 3, 4 or 5 linemen and/or get a LB to blitz him or not, I'm pretty sure Marinelli will employ several variations to exert as much pressure as possible. Our main ploy will be to control time of possession throughout that game, no doubt. Hopefully, it'll prove effective enough to allow our scoring to be sufficient to win. I'm hoping for a close, grind-it-out win.

The Giants had a good plan. They just couldn't sack him. Corner backs can't cover for the amount of time that he got to dance around.

This team has to contain Rogers by keeping him in the pocket, and get him to the ground.

Let me give you something to think about. Without Nelson here are the packers receivers:

Adams =will be shadowed by Carr
Cobb=will be taken by scandrick
Allison =brown /Claiborne
Cook=jones

if we rush 3 and drop 8 I don't think GB has any real game breakers there. When Rodgers rolls out or scrambles we need that one spy. I trust durant for the job and leave Lee in coverage. Combine that with no running game for GB and I don't see as big a threat as most of you. They might get a couple decent drives. I do not see them scoring more than 24 points.

Now let's look at our offense...
Dez= will draw Damarius Randell who often gets burned
Williams=will draw Gunter who is an UDFA
Beasley= will draw Rollins whose been Horrible good luck with that.

Now add that in with having to stop zeke with two very average MLB's in Ryan and Martinez . I didn't even mention Witten yet. They'll prabobaly have to bring a safety down and play single high. .Most are so infatuated with the QB. That is literally the only position GB is better at. Well, I say it ain't going to happen.

Good post for sure. But I won't lie: OScan 'covering' Cobb is damn worrisome. Our O on their D? I like it.....A LOT.

They've had more dramatic change than we have. Rogers came into the first game completing a career worst 56%. In the past 6 weeks he's been closer to 70%. Mid-season they made a change to convert Montgomery to running back and that really worked out well for them. Jordy finally got healthy (though he's not now!).

I don't know which fans you are talking about that withholding credit from their own team. As for my posts in recent months...I've talked about Dak as MVP, started threads in praise of Lee and Marinelli, defended Brown and Carr from critics, etc. etc.
I'm talking about you and others clearly hit dog (figuratively of course) with regards to this thread. I don't know your post history so don't know why you'd tell me about it. I'm talking about this thread and how you and a few others on y'all's give the other team all the praise like you're scarred of them and not really mention your own team. Also being honest I'm willing to bet most of y'all didn't watch the games the Pack played to give them this credit. Y'all just saw highlights and was like mommy I'm scarred lol.

As far as change goes change is change. When your stinking like they were of course you'd have more change than us who've been consistently good all season. It don't mean our change isn't just as good it's just theirs is more noticeable.

If I remember correctly, the first time we ran that 32 defense this season was at Lambeau Field against Rogers.

Also, If I remember correctly, it did stymie him a bit. They'll probably be prepared for it.
the magic of the 3-2 exists in the disguise of the blitz / rushers, they can prepare a lot of if then scenarios, but there are so many ways to confuse the blocking scheme that there will always be some element of unknown

its probably going to be a shootout. but general Sean Lee will have the troops ready on his side of the ball.

on offense.... run game and TOP helps to keep Rodgers off field as much as possible.

styles make matches and we match up well with them.
Yeah, and I think the Giants problem was that it couldn't score. When you're one dimensional, you become sitting ducks. We will be able to put up points against Green Bay.
