A team can gain consecutive possessions through an onside kick or a muffed punt/kickoff (the receiving team in that case never has possession). Those are the only cases I can come up with.
Exactly. Those are the only ways and they are quite uncommon.
All the people saying "give it to Zeke 50 times..." aren't tracking the simple logic that long sustained drives do nothing in terms of giving the Cowboys more possessions than the Packers. Both teams will get an even number of cracks at it.
The 2014 Cowboy-Packer playoff game featured both teams going on a number of long sustained drives. The game was shortened in the sense that their were not many clock stoppages. Each possession became even more important in terms of getting 7 points.
In the 2014 playoff game Dallas won the time-of-possession. And lost the game. Focusing on T.O.P. is misguided.
