We may have a formula to slow Aaron Rogers

I think our defensive gameplan in the first game was excellent. Mush rush 4 and occasionally 3, keep Rodgers in the pocket and flood the zones. Yes, you don't get the sacks and he has forever to throw the ball, but he's not nearly as effective as he is if you blitz him and miss and he extends the play.

YR

pretty much and hope he makes a mistake or two.

It's all going to depend on what kind of game Zeke has. The Packers and Rodgers are clearly playing better than they were when we played them in week 5 and they're going to do everything they can to stop Zeke and put the game on Dak. Dez has been up and down this season and his role is different with Dak at QB. He's got to get open for Dak because he spreads the ball around and throws to the open receiver. We may have to take some chances with Dez on Sunday because we're going to have to put up some points. He has put up 8 TDs this season.

I disagree. Green Bay is going to sell out to stop Zeke, and force Dak to beat them with his arm (much like the Giants did). Therefore, it's all going to depend upon how well Dak throws the ball. If he connect through the air early, it will force the Packers to open things up, which will in turn open up running lanes for Zeke. Dak couldn't connect against the Giants, hence te loss. In the first Green Bay game, the Packers played it the same way, and once Dak began to heat up, they had to back off of Elliot.

The key is going to be Dak being accurate. That will open up the entire offense. If he's not, Dallas becomes one-dimensional, and a one-dimensional team is much easier to defend.

The only way Romo gets involved is if Dak gets injured. We've gone the entire season with Dak and if we're going to get to the SB it will be with him. Despite Romo playing some last week, one series all season isn't going to have him prepared for playoff football facing Aaron Rodgers. Romo's gunslinging style will lead to turnovers and sacks putting Rodgers and the Packers offense on the field more. We have to stick with what got us to this game. In 07 we made big changes heading into the playoffs, getting away from what got us there. Barber got his first start and we put in Terry Glenn who hadn't played all season and decided on a ball control offense featuring the running game. It helped keep the game close which played into the Giants hands and got us beat.

Got it, Romo would play awful in this game and lose... since I have your Devine attention, would you please be so kind as to give me the winning lottery numbers. Lol.

All kidding aside, I think Romo would play awesome in this game. I think you sorely underestimate an amazing QB. This guy is capable of putting up 50 points. But I do agree, they probably won't do it.

But Jerry's comment about watching and seeing how the Cowboys use Tony Romo this season was not misspoken. Something along the lines of, "we will know it when we see it." I think the Cowboys brain trust has discussed it. And I don't think it was the one series in Philadelphia. But we will see.

With that said, I also think Dak is capable of winning this game as well.

I just said Green Bay is going to do everything to stop Zeke and put the game on Dak but if we have no running game and Dak has to carry us we're done. The way we've won games this season is running the ball efficiently, leaving Dak with manageable downs and distances. The short middle of the field passing game that's moved the chains and has chewed up the clock is how we've won games. Dak's going to have to throw the ball well, that goes without saying but we've won all season without him having to put up big numbers. He couldn't connect against the Giants because we were behind the chains most of the game. Dak was struggling in 3rd and long.

We have to avoid drive killing penalties that have put us behind the chains and negated some big plays. Dak is going to have to be accurate like he has all season and avoid turnovers. We're going to have to control the ball in this game and limit Rodgers opportunities on offense. The more chances he gets the worse off we're going to be.

I swear if it was up to some of you, you would bench Dak and start Romo on Sunday. lol That's just how bad some on this board are wanting him to have a last hurrah. He's not prepared to play at playoff level only having one series in a meaningless game. I can assure you the Cowboys braintrust hasn't discussed any plans with Romo in the playoffs other than having him as the backup. You claim Romo is capable of putting up 50 points when we've never scored 50 points with him at QB. Get off fantasy Island and come back to the world of reality. Romo's playoff record is 2-4 and we've never gotten past the second round of the playoffs with him. Luck has never been on his side, his career has been marred by terrible luck. Romo will never get rid of the demons that have haunted his career.

If we're going to get past the second round of the playoffs and get to the SB it's going to be with the QB who's led us to this great season. A QB who has confidence and who's career hasn't been haunted by bad breaks. You're not going to get anywhere replacing a QB who's having an MVP caliber season for one that's been carrying a clipboard all season...get real! If we're going to be the team we've been all season it's going to be with Dak. Romo isn't seeing the field unless Dak gets injured. This is HIS team and some of you need to accept it and move on from Romo.

The topic of this thread is principally about how best to defend Rogers. How is it that we get yet another Dak/Tony discussion?

How is Rogers going to score 28 points if Green Bay only gets the ball 3 times? Here's how it goes: Dallas recieves. Dallas has a 18 play 12 minute drive for a TD. Rodgers gets the ball goes on 6 minute drive for a FG. Dallas gets the ball and goes for a 12 minute TD drive and scores with 5 seconds left in the half. Kickoff runs out clock. Rodgers gets ball. Rodgers drives for 6 minutes and fumbles. Dallas goes on 18 play 13 minute drive, with 14 runs. Rodgers gets the ball with 11 minutes left, goes on 4 minute TD drive. Dallas runs out last 7 minutes of the game and wins 21-10.

I'd love it. I'll give you $100,000 if this happens. :)

Absolutely. That's the #1 overall key of the game, IMO. If Dak plays as he's capable we are 3-1 favorites. If we have to run our way to victory we will lose.

We could have 200 yards rushing but it won't matter if Dak doesn't throw it well.

It's simple math...good running gives you 5 yards a carry. Superior running gives you 6 yards a carry. But good passing is 8-10 yards per attempt. That's why it's a passing league.

All the people here who think we should just run-run-run...are wrong wrong wrong.

Here's what I feel is mentionable going into Sunday...

1) Last game we had no Dez. This game they'll have no Jordy.

2) We've already beat them on their home turf by 14. This game it will be on ours.

3) Last week. more than 25% of the Packers team was on the injury report. http://www.foxsports.com/nfl/story/...ter-injury-report-heading-playoff-game-010417 Ours are coming off of injuries.

4) We're fresher coming off the bye, and have had more time to prepare.

5) The youth factor. Old gimpy can't hang around forever and our defense has looked solid. Nothing seems to phase Dak or Zeke. The OL will continue to protect the QB and open running lanes. Zeke will want double rations after not eating last week.

6) We're hungrier. No one on this team has tasted the Super Bowl. This Cowboy's team has risen above and beyond the call of duty when the naysayers said that it just wasn't possible. There's something special about this team that's slowly percolating in an iron cast cauldron and it's about to erupt all over the cheese heads come Sunday. This is the year we finish the fight and silence the mediots.

I'm trying to imagine what that would do to the wall.

Smallish hole I'd guess. Only the hole you would leave would be thin and shapely. ;)

The only way to slow down Rodgers is to keep him off the field. Our offense is going to have to be our best defense. It's going to take controlling the ball on 8-12 play drives that end in points, mostly TD's. We have to take advantage of every opportunity we have with the ball because if Rodgers comes in as hot as he was last week our defense is not going to be able to stop him. We have a bend but don't break defense and he will break us with that quick flick of the wrist release he has which is impossible to defend when he's on his game. As soon as a receiver breaks slightly open he puts the ball right on them with a flick of his wrist.

We have to limit his opportunities with the ball and try and come up with some turnovers like we did earlier in the season against them. We need to pull out all the stops and get Zeke heavily involved in the passing game. Our biggest play this season was an 83 yard pass to Zeke for a TD vs Pittsburgh. We need to get him out in space and get the ball to him. Put Dez back on long punts, it's another way to get the ball in his hands. We're not a big play team and we're probably going to need some big plays in this game to stay in it.
