I stole this idea from 'boysfanindc' but I agree with him whole heartedly. This kid was GOOD last night. Just about a solid as Hatcher was. Thoughts?

Good thread to start.

I thought the kid played well. 1 QB Hit, 1 QB hurry, 3 tackles, 2 stops.

hoping we did find something here. i'll also have to say while we've got spencer one more year (good or bad depending on your own POV) selvie was looking like someone with some practice, can get 'er done also.

I agree that Selvie might be able to make a case for us not resigning Spencer next season. Another thing you have to consider is Selvie is a 4-3 DE. Spencer played it in college but played 3-4 OLB his whole career in the NFL. While Ware is such a freak of nature that he could play either one, there's no guarantee that Spencer will play 4-3 DE at the same level. That being said, I still like the philosophy that "you can never have enough pass rushers." Having Osi and Tuck didn't stop NY from going after JPP. Look how that surplus of pass rushers paid off for them. You really have to adjust to the changes in the NFL and you have to trust in your coach's scheme. Before the emergence of Selvie, I was not comfortable with us parting ways with Spencer (even if we go DE in Round 1 of the 2014 Draft). But now, I'm a little more comfortable with the idea. He's only 26 and he'd probably be a lot cheaper than resigning Spencer.

I was surprised Rayford was not active,he could have been used give Selvie a break.

...........and Crawford, heck I'll add in what I've seen on vid from the Ceasar kid.......With those 3 young'uns we should be able to keep everyone fresh

Agreed. Selvie played well, but Rayford could've held it down on a limited number of passing downs I'm sure. I wouldn't want him to have a huge role because he's new, but on a more simple 'get to the QB' assignment, I think he would have made an impact against Pugh (who he owned in the preseason matchup).

Yeah, I forgot about Crawford. Hopefully he isn't another Matt Johnson. I'm not gonna pretend to be an expert on Monte's defense, but I think Ware, Selvie and Spencer are all weak-side DEs. So, we probably don't even need all 3. I can see us going WDE Ware starter/Selvie backup, SDE Crawford starter/Rayford backup. Then hopefully we spend a top pick on a pass rushing DT to replace Ratliff.

Really like what Hayden did last night. Look at the play after the TWill/Romo miscue. Hayden drives Boothe Back a good yard and a half, sheds him and makes the tackle for a loss. His plays low and with great leverage with good hand placement makes him hard to block.

I love the competition and depth we have at most positions. I never was too concerned about the DL but a little. Not as much now but let's get a few games under their belt.

way too early to say.

The giants had 12 rushing attempts, more then half seemed to be designed to go outside, so we didn't really get tested in the middle at all.

And the Giants have some major injuries, reshuffling, and Doug Free caliber players, so I think we need to see more.

Ratliff can keep crying about the medical staff/trainers.

Worthless at this point

It's crazy how no-name guys like Hayden and Selvie can come in here and play like big name free agent acquisitions right off the bat. I don't know if the front office deserves credit for finding diamonds in the rough, or if it's just Marinelli working his magic.

I don't think we have "something" with him, implying he'll have a sustained future here, but I see him doing the job Lissemore should have been doing in the 4-3. Seeing guys like Selvie and Hayden having solid games makes you look back at guys like Igor Olshansky and go "how?"

I mentioned this during preseason, and I'll say it again. I'm hoping Ratliff comes back as a reserve. He may ultimately get more snaps than Hayden, but it would be nice to see Ratliff with a fresh set of legs in the fourth quarter. Remember how effective Leon Lett was in that role.

Thought Rayford would play since he had some good plays against the giants rookie tackle, I Saw jones go in as a dend and actually did a good job of making Eli step up into pressure, these guys have been good finds hope they stay healthy, though.
