We need to find our Fred Warner at LB!

I like Downs, but the next two safeties are very good and just a notch below him
Good to hear. Safety is going to be a problem next year if not addressed properly.

They allowed it to be a problem for years, then did well with Hooker, Kearse and Wilson. Hope they don’t expect to get that performance for that cost again.

I’d use a high pick and sign a mid cost veteran type. Of course they have this fun little habit of not addressing problems until after they realize it is one….that is, when the season is already underway.

Revel needs to develop as well, and this defense has an actual shot next year.

It’s close….but you just can’t sit around and do nothing because you’re worried about the 2033 cap. They don’t need to pull what the Rams did but you can’t expect the draft to fix it all, and right away.

I would like to add a veteran starting safety and draft a versatile, modern one to pair up together. Downs is clearly the best, but the next two can fill that need well.

I haven't watched anyone in this draft class, and won't until Christmas. But in general, LB is a position I like to fade.

The stereotype of an LB is some no-neck physical beast, but it's one of the most mentally demanding positions on the field, and you can get by with average athleticism. You cannot get by at LB with poor instincts. I would much rather have an Anthony Hitchens than a Jaylon Smith.

Obviously, if you find a stud athlete who also has great instincts like Fred Warner, that's your ticket. But the guys who get drafted top 50 at all positions are the rare athletes, and you don't need a rare athlete at LB the same way you need one at say boundary corner or DE.
Excellent point about instincts over athletes at the position, great if you can find both. A player like Sean Lee had those elite instincts, Bruce Carter was that elite athlete, clearly Lee was the far superior player. Nick Bolton is another one that ran a real slow 40 time and he has been a good linebacker on this level due to his instincts.

I did watch Styles this week and read some of his scouting reports to see if I am seeing the same thing-he is an elite coverage linebacker, especially in zone and needs some development as a every down linebacker since he is new to the position. In my opinion, he looks like a good will linebacker prospect, but I do think he needs some development. I think he is more in play with our Green Bay pick.
Pretty sure our issue is stoping the run.

Careful.......this was the supposedly knock on Jihaad Campbell. All I am saying is instinct is a tough trait for fans to evaluate in college players.

Instincts, Intelligence, Film Study, Tendencies, Experience, Intuition, understanding down and distance, score, time remaining in the game, ball placement on hash marks, offensive personnel on the field = Football Intelligence.

Maybe the wondering test needs to be reinstated.

Its a good class.

Styles and Hill Jr are the cream of the crop IMO. They are the do it all type LBs that can help you everywhere and dont need to come off the field.

I heard Mosher comp Styles to a bigger Shazier today...love it.

Reese is an Edge for me.

1000%...

I know tackles arent the end all be all but you have to be around the ball alot and rack up 100+ tackles in a college season you have to have some instincts.

I don't know if he's going to declare for the draft but I am a big fan of Kip Lewis, especially if Dallas can snag him inthe 4th round

Surely teams have some kind of mental acuity tests?
