al johnson was horrendous here, and has been mediocre (and always hurt) since he left...the guy had no clue how to play with leverage

I strongly disagree with this entire post. We aren't horrible on our oline or Dline, especially not on our Dline. The oline goes about 3 deep in depth with Holland, Proctor, and Free. Holland and Proctor have proven to be serviceable if need for a few games. Obviously we could get better there but no team can be stout and deep across the board.

As for Al Jonhson, his knee is shot. We don't need him..

our depth isn't horrible? For real? what player would start ANYWHERE in the nfl? Not a single one... thats horrible depth.

Al johnson could at least start somewhere.

D-line isn't horribe at all, We could use a better backup nose tackle, but that's about it there

O-Line backups aren't horrible either, you can't have allpros as back ups. I see Free, Holland Gibbons and probably McQuisten making the team, since Brewster will probably go on IR. As long as Proctor is off this team, I'm fine with the O-line. If Gibbons can show he can play center, Proctor at his salary is gone

Huh? Al Johnson could start somewhere? He can't even land on a team, much less start somewhere. And, not too many teams backup Olinemen can start somewhere else. That's why they're backups...

Im not saying we need starters on the entire 2nd string. But at least one or two guys who could start....

give me a freaking 6th man...

We don't have one veteran or youthful 6th olinemen... and don't tell me thats doug free...

We have one defensive tackle....

Sixth man, is this basketball or football

Free, Brewster, Gibbons, there's three young offensive linemen for you with Holland as a veteran

What do you think happens in the nickel at DT, Ratliff,Spears,Dixon Olshansky are your DT's with SPencer,Ware Hatcher and Bowen are your ends

Welcome to the salary cap NFL, nobody has alot of deph

Doug Free might could start for some teams. Holland could definitely start for some teams.

But just because a guy cant start somewhere doesnt mean they are horrible depth. Alot of teams have backups that couldnt be adequate starters anywhere else as well. The days of a 92/93 Cowboys type team where their 2nd team could reasonably challenge most other teams starters is over.

As much as I hate Proctor there is no way I'd want Al Johnson over him. Al is done in the NFL.

it was a figure of speech. Even with the salary cap, you can afford one flex vet that can play tackle/guard or tackle/guard/center or guard/center...

The only place we have horrible depth issues is LB and CB if more than one or two get hurt. LB is honestly my biggest concern, because if our backup LBs don't get a clue, we are going to be eaten alive with the run game whenever they have to come in.

we need a backup NT with bulk and if Corey Procter makes this team I really question the quality of the OTHER backup OL in this organization.

It was CLEAR that Brad Johnson was not a NFL player anymore, and they did something about him....and NO ONE in this organization can convince me that Procter is a NFL player. My eyes don't lie.

an offensive linemen that plays all three positiions, name me one player that can do that. Better yet, name me three, if you can!!! If there were any of those type of guys out there, He'd have alot of takers. There isn't because there is no such thing..

I think we have great cb and lb depth. if one person goes down its not going to be the end of the world. Obviously if you get two down its a problem... but one person on the offensive line and we're sunk.

How can you possibly think we have good depth at LB?

Carpenter looks fine as a nickel ILB to me, and we drafted 3 talented guys this yr.

We cant afford to lose Ware, but no other team in football could afford to lose a player of his calibar either. You just dont replace those kinds of guys.

What's it going to be then, eh?

How has a player cut from three different teams over the past year demonstrated he could start for anybody?

I understand about the concern with the depth on the offensive line but your solution is poor.

Now depth means our backups could start for other teams. With the idea being we trade for depth from other teams. Meaning we take their starters as our backups. Yeah, that won't be a problem.

Carpenter may indeed prove to be an effective nickel LB, but would you want him playing 3 downs as a reult of an injury? Hell no.

"Three talented guys" are rookies, and none of them look to be ready to step in if needed. They're just not ready.

LB Depth should be of great concern IMO.
