I rather apologize to the team for the hoard of 49ers fans attending the game in week one.

the point is, they were better October 1st of last year and that defense was the worst ever with Ware and Hatcher AND Lee. so maybe we should wait more than 4 games to give apology. as for fight and effort I love the defense players they are all heart but it might take more than heart to win.

In some stats yes. Point is people have raked this defense over the coles and your right 12 mill a year Ware is not on this team and fact is over his last 20 games in Dallas he was not doing anything so you bet we moved on. Hatcher had a good year about time. This is a much younger defense but when push has come to shove and we have needed them to step up and make a play they have done that. Yes struggled vs Rams they also played a big part in helping the team win with the Carter pick 6 and Claiborne pick when all the Rams needed was 3 to tie the game. Our defense in recent years when put in that situation folded these guys are not.

True but defense still had to go out there and stop the Saints and they did the got an int deep in saints end of the field and offense scores 2 plays later. This was an offense that many claimed Dallas had no chance of stopping and they did. NO put up 14 in the 4th outside of that Dallas stopped them.

it was a great effort by the team. fantastic. and the NFL is looking now. but it was one game. after Denver last year people lost their minds but it all went downhill after that great performance. so I will wait and hope they beat everyone but know that it will be unlikely.

Well i'll say this. Initially when I saw our 1st six games were going to include the Aint's, 9ers, Rams and Seahawks....I thought this could get ugly out of the gate.

Any one with a shred of common sense did. I'm happy but cautious.

I agree with the Hatcher and Ware decision. It just wasnt team friendly cap wise.

Yes it was one game I get that, I think they will have their ups and downs. My point is people were ragging on them before 1 game was even played. To say well hold on let’s wait and see if they continue to improve I get that to rake them over the coals as many have before 1 game where was all the let’s wait and see. No people as normal rushed to judgment.
I have never once claimed this group would be a top 5 or top 10 I have said and still say they will be an improvement over what we have seen. Our high priced defense we had when we needed them to step up they failed time after time.

before we hand out the awards let me link you to another article that suggest we should prepare for heartache sooner or later.

I'll give some spoilers, this time last year the worst defense in history, our defense was better than this years defense especially on 3rd down. scary. there are no guarantee and this team is different but the defense is already sliding badly in stats, 32nd now in yards allowed per play and others are in 20s.

it is way to early to know what the team can do but the defense will be the weakness until they can pressure qb. thats why as happy as that game made me feel I try to chill and not get to carried away. beat Houston and Seattle and it will be huge for my confidence.

Late in the game, ahead, defense will give up the yards but not the score. Did you see the 3rd and 15, against the Saints before the fake punt deal.
3 guys on the line and looked to be about 5 12 yards down field. Pass was before the 1st down marker and they stopped them.
I'll take that.

I know this does not mean much. But what QB's are coming up should we fear. Yes, a teams, OL, RB, WR still comes into it. But a Brees type QB?

Fitzpatrick is good or bad, but not great, but capable of getting it done at times.
Wilson is a good QB but yet to show he can carry the team by himself. I fear him more though than fitzpatrick. mostly becaue they have a complete team, and are the champs.
Eli...will need to see how he continues to improve with new offense, but he's not a bum either at times.
Cousins, showing he's not all that, but still can have a good game, just because of the rest of the offensiveive weapons. Or will RG3 be back by then.
Palmer, if he's back, but he has some weapons too.
Bortles, a rookie with a bad team.
Again, eli
Foles. he's back to earth a bit with a bad OL, but this game is too far away to say.
Cutler, he's been looking awful at times
Foles again
Luck, now that will be a problem
then Cousins or RG3 again.

So really no one, except Luck. Unless one of those QB's really gets hot more than anyone expects.
But also our defense should continue to improve too.

We should have everybody healthy by the Colts game. DLaw and Spencer should be firing on all cylinders by then

lets just say we hope they will be better. much better because hey, they could be. its a different team with a run first offense and maybe less injuries and a different schedule. it could be better. but it might not be. its to early to say.

I agree, this is far from a finished product but I see guys make a mistake and the following week in similar situation not making the same mistakes. Dallas right now is not getting the pass rush they need yet we rank 5th in ints? go figure. Dallas will be getting more help over the course of the season and the improved play of Bruce Carter and Ro McClain is making a big impact.

If anything, the defense owes us an apology for causing us to miss the playoffs the last couple years. With that said, they've outplayed expectations this year, kudos to that.

I think from a defensive standpoint this looks to be similar to the 2003 campaign. It will look a lot better than it is because of lesser opponents. Also less injury on the DL.

Lesser opponents? 2013 schedule vs 2014? there is nothing Lesser about it.

I thought we only owed Mo an apology.
Better keep up. That's like two minutes ago. In a few minutes, we will be apologizing to Candice for retiring Tony's lovesac insuring his back would recover more quickly than expected. :)

They have exceeded expectations, but still have a long way to go before anyone should call them a good defense. The linebackers need to get healthy, safety play needs to improve, and at least one of our defensive ends needs to be able to get around the edge to the qb.

With all of that said, I like watching this defense better than last year's bunch. This defense looks like it can grow and improve. They play with a little swagger. I see potential. Last year's guys just looked like they were holding on for dear life. They didn't inspire any confidence. And watching a once again banged up Ware being completely ineffective was depressing.
