EAGLES PLACE LAWS ON PUP LIST

Philadelphia Eagles on Tuesday placed defensive tackle Trevor Laws, their first pick in this year's draft, on the physically unable to perform list with a foot injury.

The Eagles also put defensive end Bryan Smith (hamstring) and cornerback Jack Ikegwuonu (knee) on the PUP list.

According to Eagles coach Andy Reid, Laws, who was taken with the 16th pick in the second round, and Smith are scheduled to return to practice in the next few days, although they will be ineligible for the first six games of the regular season.

Ikegwuonu is expected to miss the entire season due to a knee injury suffered during a workout prior to the NFL draft.

That doesn't sound right unless they changed the rules. I thought if you went on the PUP list you could not practice with the team, either.

I think they can PUP a player now, but they have to remove them before a certain date.

If they don't the player is then ineligible to play the first 6 weeks.

Here's what I found on the subject:

NFL rules allow teams to designate players as physically unable to perform, generally due to an injury that existed before camp or was caused by a non-football activity. Once players are designated as such, they are prohibited from practicing with the team. They can, however, rehabilitate and participate in team meetings. If a player begins training camp on the PUP list, he can be moved to the active roster at any time, even after one practice. A player cannot be placed on the PUP list if they start training camp on the active roster.

Thanks. That is what I thought.

B/c most Zoners were begging Jerry to draft him, along with DeSean Jackson(and Tony Hunt last year).

I don't really remember that...but its not my point.

My point is what does him getting hurt have to do with us drafting him? I see that you're saying he would have gotten hurt here or something along those lines...and you aren't the first I don't think. I just don't see the correlation.

Get over it, makes you look foolish. Who cares about Laws at this point?

Honestly, I can't remember a single mention of the guys' name here, much less "most Zoners" begging for Jerry to draft him.

While would they go on PUP is they are going to return in a few days unless they were using PUP to shield them from the roster. ...which I'm not sure you are allowed to do anymore.

I don't think that's true, at all. There were alot of guys pimping players on this board, but Laws doesn't sound familiar at all. Neither does Hunt.

I am a Irish fan, and Trevor Laws is a good player, but he was a 4-3 lineman. I don't recall anybody wanting him here. Sounds like the Eagles are just protecting themselves for insurance reasons. Is he signed?
