We should keep Sam Williams for the right price

As do I. But if they are just gonna bargain bin shop…I think I’d rather bargain with him then a Peyton Turner or a jag. Unless the bargain I’d Fowler or a Clowney type.
But is Sam worth the risk? If he was highly productive otherwise maybe he’s worth the risk. But you can also find guys who are just as productive as Sam who also aren’t mistake prone and known to do stupid things

If he wants to come back for real cheap with no guaranteed money on a prove it deal. That’s fine. But otherwise I wouldn’t.

Only in a one-year cheap deal.

He's a headcase with work ethic issues.

When is the last time he’s done this? In my head it was the punt but I don’t seem him do much dumb stuff these days. My biggest pet peeve is guys who live up offsides. Nuts.
Well first of all I believe we all hate pre snap penalties that cost your team but Sam Williams not the only one who does that you remember Gregory used to do that too but we've seen Clowny do it a couple times this year already what's happening nowadays is the defensive lineman are trying to get every single blade of grass or turf they can because the operative lineman are getting away with lining up too deep in the backfield that foot comes back so soon and fast and before the ball snapped they're not getting called for it very often they're getting an advantage and now the defense is trying to take an advantage back and sometimes that means they're jumping off sides Or lining up offsides..

So I understand the frustration but at the same time I understand why they feel like all the rules are against the defense now and they're just trying to take that space to limits to get at least some of it back....

I’m of the belief that I think he’s a player. He was raw when we drafted him and I believe one more year in this system we will start to see things slow down for him. The different coaches every year has t done him or no one favors.

I believe Williams should be brought back on a cheap deal. He is surprisingly making some big plays. The blocked punt and the forced fumble plus I don't know what his pressure rate is but he seems to be in the backfield quite a bit. I don't remember any bonehead plays this year. We had the tragic loss of Kneeland and Clowney and Fowler I believe are on one year contracts. If the price is right I think we should keep Williams. What say you?
I disagree. We can do better here. Clowney on his own is example A.

Sam is making some plays but in aspects that are ancillary to his #1 which is to rush the passer. He’s not been good at that this season which is surprising to me given his increase in snaps (he’s had more snaps at this point in the season than he has during any other year in his career).
He is playing much better now though. Against KC he ran right over the left tackles and got to Mahomes but couldn't bring him down. But the pressure led to an incompletion. I think he is getting there. I will watch him the remaining games and see if he continues to improve.

Nope.

Get him as far away from this team as possible.

I think I’d been tough to grade this unit based on having 3 DCs in three years straight. Sam Williams got hurt by that more then anyone as did Mazi.
Sam Williams was hurt by his own brain more than any DC.

He has been bad. Not ok, not mediocre. BAD.

Not to mentions his constant ability to take a dumb penalty at the worst possible time, is inability to stop the run, and his me first attitude.

I would have cut him weeks ago.

I agree. More and more he's trending upward. I just about gave up on him. But since the trades, he's been much much better.

Coaching matters. Can’t stress that enough.

There needs to be a pre-condition to extending Sam that includes re-wiring his brain.

Can Sam be consistent in a good way down the stretch of this season? Sam has had injury and other issues slowing his development. Whitecotton is a good coach, so can Sam take the coaching and turn it around to finish the season. As of now, he walks or gets like a 1yr/3M prove it deal.
