One of my good friends is a huge Vikings fan and he said Vikes were open to trading him at one point BUT....their asking price was too high that nobody in their right mind would make the deal. They essentially wanted a first round or maybe 2 first round picks.

No offense, but your friend is no different from the soothsayers here that stated it was in play. Nothing from the Vikings ever suggested that it was realistic.

And is your viking fan friend part of the front office who would actually be in the know...NO!... the vikings were not trading AP, nothing more than media fed story..just like with Megatron...I believe Dallas has Romo taking up 26 million against the cap next year, should they cut him too then?

So I am guessing you are part of the Viking's front office then?

It was not realistic. Multiple first round picks were not realistic but I am sure if a team was to call offering that much when Peterson was pouting and bashing the organization---it could've happened. None of us really know for sure if he was in play. I know the Vikings were not willing to move him for a midround draft pick which was originally reported.

His friend saying the Vikings were open to trading him has the same level of credibility as you saying they were never going to.
What position in the Vikings front office do you hold? NONE!
See it's just as obnoxious when someone replies to your post the way you replied to his.

why not, we should've sold the farm for Peterson and squandered that opportunity. Megatron can do to our passing game what Peterson would've done to our running game.

shouldn't let this opportunity pass us up.. i'm with you

Can you not grasp the basic concept of a player and his agent trying to get his contract re-worked to get more upfront guaranteed money....How clear was that, only mentioned in the media a dozen times, and that is exactly what happened, got his contract re-worked, yet koolaid Cowboy fans thought the viking were going to trade AP instead.....try to keep up, it isn't that difficult to follow, but maybe it is to you...

No GM can justify his 24 million dollar cap hit and he's likely to get cut and test the market.

He has a rapport with Linehan, who knows how to use him, and might pick that over learning a new offense at this point in his career.

To me, that would be my number one move this offseason. If Romo and Witten only have 2 or 3 years then we should go for it. I don't think he'll get Dez money at this point in his career (still only 30 by the start of next season) and we could carve a niche for him like the Cardinals have with Fitzgerald. A number 2 WR who does a lot of pseudo TE duties on a lot of downs because you know the front office cannot justify the resources to use a high draft pick on finding Witten's replacement yet and that 2 TE thing really will never jump off for us.

Picture a situation where the base offense is a 3 WR set with Dez and Megatron on the boundary and Bease doing work in the middle. And then on some downs, you can have CJ in the slot and a speedy WR on the outside stretching the defense down the field.

He and Dunbar being back should be enough explosiveness to get our offense back on track and that doesn't count any infusion of talent we would have through the draft.

We have a great offensive line. A healthy Romo, Dez and Megatron could have us competing with Carolina and Arizona.

Oh you mean like we made a slash last year prying Adrian Peterson from Minny? I won't hold my breath for any splashes this year. I value my life.

This team doesn't have Megatron money. It doesn't even have half Megatron money.
If he gets released he'll be picking between a few 50m offers. None from this team.

So you work for both the Vikings AND AP's agent now?

The team has the money, we are actually in excellent cap shape...but I doubt we invest on a receiver when we have 3, maybe 4 OL due for contracts within the next two years.

BTW, I do think this team should consider the WR FA market, just the secondary WR market not 10m per year guys.

Dallas isn't hurting under the cap but teams have 40+ mil available so costs will be insane.

I'd be looking at cheap vets who are legit 3rd or 4th options. Basically upgrades from Devin Street.

No, we are not. We are somewhere around 25th in available cap space entering the off-season. If we want to keep Hardy we are basically even.
We are not hurting but there are ~10 teams with 40m+ to spend.
