Nothing on the roster fits this scheme..

Is something for safety in the works?

If you are trying to fix the defense this year, which is looks like they are making an effort, you need safeties.

Then Overshown comes back to help the LBs. And hopefully Revel makes some noise his rookie year. He looks to ha e great instincts.

The defense could get to average or a little below if things go right. But we need Overshown, Revel to play well, and two safeties.

My thing is 3-5-1 kinda means the season is done..

Agreed.

They flirted with Minkah, and adding him would have been great, but at what cost?

Obviously they are counting on getting Dono and Hooker back after the bye.

How much stability can Wilson and Williams bring to the defense? How much of the communication issues were centered around Murray not knowing his assignments?

Wilson can at least be a solid green dot guy, and with 2 big DTs in front of him, he should have open lanes to make some plays.

Williams will require teams to adjust gameplans to account for him. Will he be disruptive enough against the pass to force the ball out quick? Flus scheme is predicated on rushing with 4, and this is the most ammo he has had to date— but if we can, then in theory, the secondary will benefit as longer developing routes go out of the playbook and they can stand at the sticks and close quick and tackle.

I am still concerned that no one sets the edge on the perimeter, tackling has been awful, and guys have been out of position— time will tell if these trades and the bye week break are enough to make a difference

Yeah...we should give up another 1st for a safety

The only way this 3-5-1 team is gonna finish the season at 7-9-1 and not 5-11-1 is if we push our future and another 1st in and get us a safety.

Because...as the old saying goes.. .the team with the best safeties and kickers own the field.

You will get Hooker/Wilson and like it……

I hate to say it, but if Revel works out at corner, playing Diggs at FS makes some sense. Tackling goes down, but it puts a ball hawk in center field which would limit plays over the top....in theory. Worst case, he gets beat, but he also creates turnovers. The guys on the field are awful, so what's there to lose?

Yes, but we've taken 2 must draft positions away. I still would draft a lb i want Downs but reality is hell go before we pick.

In need of importance in my mind on defense is

New D scheme
2 safeties
LB
1 corner
DE

Defense has improved but even with minkah it's probably too late this year. They will need to address this in the off-season. I want to see how the players respond now. What will really happen with diggs?

Diggs, bland, revel, with backups carson and Reddy isn't too terrible if healthy.

With the first two rounders, we need a killer Ken Norton or health LVE LB type and a great range centerfielder free safety whom is a great tackler. We should also concentrate on a free agent safety as well. 4th-5th rounds, go for coverage corners. You cannot have too many.

The fact that we have money tied up in these 2 safeties is why you won't see much else

This Defense will look a whole lot different against the Raiders. 3 new improved players on D. Overshown, Williams and Logan. 2 of which a legit playmakers. I’m on board with stacking wins and see where we end up. It’s more fun that way.

They aren't. Not even close. They need at least 3-4 more serious players before they move the needle.

All they did today was try and make their job easier this next off season.
I would argue 3-4 players just in the secondary, but your point remains. The timing seems an afterthought, so hopefully we land some players next year.
