We Still Need Safeties

Caleb Downs from Ohio State has to be on the Cowboys radar.
Which is why I didn't want us to use a draft pick for Minkah. I think his best years are behind him. My concern with the addition of Q. Williams at this point, is that we will unexpectedly win a game or two (Vikings/Chargers) that we probably wouldn't win, thereby pushing our draft position back a few spots back. Then watch him get picked a couple of picks before us.

The Cowboys need to be planning for next season right now. I would find out what it would take for Clark to come back a reasonable salary. A 3 man rotation of Williams, Clark, and Osa would be a great start to the middle of the defense. EZ seems to be the real deal at defensive end but we need a young bull at the other end position. It is important that Wilson and Overshown stay healthy and play well to end the season. Right now I would still draft a linebacker with my second first round pick. I think we will consider a cornerback early so it is important for Revel and Carson to show something. The safety position most be addressed as well. The Cowboys need to attack free agency hard this offseason.

Hooker has one year left which isn't guaranteed and this is Wilson's last year of his contract.
Only one thing I can say to them.

Honestly you can't judge these players with this bum DC. Example...we all know Dono and Bell are Box SSs, yet we always see them in coverage in deep zones or man to man...that is a DC problem not adjusting to personnel.

Dont understand why this front office never invested high capital into a safety
I feel like this FO does a good job of evaluating first round offensive players, but they really struggle when it comes to the defensive side unless it's just a slam dunk, no brainer type player like Parsons or Ware. Basically, if they're in the top 3rd of the 1st picking blue chippers they have a solid shot at hitting on defense, but once they get into that 2nd and 3rd tier....woof.

Nothing on the roster fits this scheme..

Is something for safety in the works?

If you are trying to fix the defense this year, which is looks like they are making an effort, you need safeties.

Then Overshown comes back to help the LBs. And hopefully Revel makes some noise his rookie year. He looks to ha e great instincts.

The defense could get to average or a little below if things go right. But we need Overshown, Revel to play well, and two safeties.

My thing is 3-5-1 kinda means the season is done..
Agreed, but Hooker will help if he ever comes back...

I think this is more of a 2026 priority for the draft. They could of added Fitzpatrick but that would of cost high draft capital with a big contract. With Williams now on board, might make sense to use those funds on an edge and draft a high-end safety.

Well, we are on the bye week you probably are correct we have a bunch of injuries at safety and I know you don't like it you say they don't fit but possibly and maybe I'm wrong but isn't Wilson and hooker eligible to return. Jthomas migranes may stop? Aclark back?

I haven't really watched him closely, but hasn't that Ballantyne, excuse the spelling, The guy from Green Bay ,hasn't he got some time at safety??

Maybe he gets better over the by I don't know I don't know what he is is he a free safety a box safety...

I realize that's not helping next year but I also believe Diggs will be back for the last four games Try to make a case for him staying here next year they're all in an evaluation now this is an 8 game coaching evaluation and player evaluation for the defense.....

But maybe they bring Simmons I don't know what their reluctance is to not go get him off the free agent trash heap unless they don't feel like he is a better option we don't know that either but maybe having a little bit better front 7 helps what safeties we do have a little more pressure up front playing with more pressure like they said they're definitely going to start playing a full time 5 man line and every time we've seen that we've had games like the Jets and even though we lost big Monday night we had five sacks and more pressures so maybe when that pressure keeps coming the safeties will end up looking better I don't know....

Hooker, Clark, and DONO, J.Thomas off the migrane issues, I know we're going to say we've all saw them, but I agree if the front sevens better, if they play that more pressure front maybe the safeties look a little bit better.

...and LBs and CBs and probably two OL, the list goes on...
