Normally I'm not too excited about a weekend without the Cowboys playing but this one ought to be great.
We all know that the Giants have a great defense and a weak offense, and the Packers are pretty much the opposite.
So I took a moment to ask how the Packers have performed against superior defenses. In their 6 week hot streak they've done this:
-Scored 21 on Houston (#1 defense)
-Scored 38 on Seattle (#3)
-Scored 38 on Vikings (#5)
Then I ask...can the Giants score big on mediocre defenses? Answer: They don't seem to score big on anyone aside from Cleveland. Working backwards down the schedule:
19, 19, 17, 10, 14, 22, 21...
Unless Manning totally changes form or they suddenly get a running game...I can't see New York scoring more than 17...maybe 21. And the Packers should have enough to cover that.
Also this: Lambeau field

Fact of the matter...the Giants offense is just not of the caliber of 2007, let alone 2011, which was Manning's career year. They run the ball worse than any of the NFC playoff teams...except maybe Detroit. There was some glimmer of hope against Washington (Perkins), and the Packers secondary is teetering on oblivion, so I don't feel totally comfortable saying that they have no chance. Quite the contrary, I think they are the team most likely to score an upset this weekend. That said, they could not breach 20 points against Washington with 3 turnovers and it doesn't bode well for trying to take down a resurgent Rodgers in chilly Lambeau...15 degrees forecast for Jan. 8 at game time.We all know that the Giants have a great defense and a weak offense, and the Packers are pretty much the opposite.

And in the second half they fell behind, panicked and quit even trying to run.The Lions benefited, greatly, from a running game -- out of blithering nowhere -- in that first half (Zenner).
The giants defense will have to stifle rodgers, and keep score low for giants to win.
Giants have a good secondary , and they have to play good to stop rodgers.
Should be a good game.
Will make my day!We will face neither. Lions will beat Seattle
Green Bay should be strong in red zone. Montgomery has been a revelation for them. They can hit the Giants with their fullback. Rogers can sting with his arm or his feet and has strong receiving core.
The loss of Thomas took the 'hawk defense from five pro bowlers to four. Putting 38 on them was extremely impressive, no matter how you parse it.
21 points isn't impressive against the #1 league defense (houston)? Careful.
Dak and our offense faced top 5 defenses 3 times this year with point totals of 19, 17, 7. Had we scored 21 we would have beat the Giants in both of those losses.
It's a great match-up. If good Eli shows up, NYG wins by 10+ going away. If normal Eli shows up, it's a dogfight to the end.
Exactly. If I owned or coached a team that played in the NFC North there is no way I build a domed stadium. There is such a home field advantage there in December and throughout the playoffs. No one wants to go to Chicago or Green Bay when it's cold. Detroit is Detroit but Minnesota was having playoff success before they put their team in a dome.No way. Football is meant to be outdoors. I'm fine with a few domes here and there, but for the most part, keep them outside. The fact that New Orleans has a dome is asinine. Same with us, but I can't hate too much.
