Yes, this dour assessment on the day after the renewal of mankind and we, standing at the cusp of spring, can only shake our heads and wonder what is happening (or not happening) as Jerra slipps deeper into . . . old age and a greater need to leave a legacy.
What will the legacy be?
Well, mens, these next several years will be unhappy ones.
Our team, essentially, next season will be the same.
No new changes in QB/RB/O line and receiver.
Our QB, who will no doubt again be running fer his life, will have a readily-built and legit excuse for pushing the balll where it should not go. Romo Will have the luxury of saying he had no running game because of the O line and will thow the ball downfield, al la Sid Gilman.
Too many interceptions by Romo? Who cares? he has his money?
Too many bad thows by Romo? Who cares, he is running for his life remember?
so the running game is forgotten this year because jerra made a huge investment in his QB and he wants his money's worth. Dez will be the go-to man. And Witten, perhaps on his way to a descent after being atop of the hill for so long, will get his share. After all, Romo is is friend.
Our draft? Jerra will play "football guy" and fool the prognosticators. He'll either trade up or down. He wont get a safety. He won't get a RB. He won't get that defensive lineman we need.
he will get some "big-name" guy, a tremendous athlete who Jerra will try to shoehorn into the team.
The secondary will remain porous.
Our fans will continue to sit on their hands on Sundays in the stadium and we will continue to gnash our collective teeths.
In the end? Another 8-8 season. Because that is the mediocre team we half become. Because of our cap, will will have barely enough money to sign backups from other teams to back up our mediocre players here.
That is a recipe for disaster. Because 8-8 teams will git you mediocre draft picks. Nothing special.
Jerra, in his world, is doing all he can. And he is proactive and that is good. But he is essstential like me and you. A fan basically who is playing building blocks with the dynamics of America's Team.
He tries hard. He willl fail.
For the next three years, expect no return to greatness. Only second-guessing giving Romo all the money for 8-8 seasons he'll turn in.
Get ready for the beginning of our nucular seveal seasons. the Skins and giants and even Eagles will vent their frustrations on us.
And all we will be able to do is wince and dream of our teams storied past.
