Yes, this dour assessment on the day after the renewal of mankind and we, standing at the cusp of spring, can only shake our heads and wonder what is happening (or not happening) as Jerra slipps deeper into . . . old age and a greater need to leave a legacy.
What will the legacy be?
Well, mens, these next several years will be unhappy ones.
Our team, essentially, next season will be the same.
No new changes in QB/RB/O line and receiver.
Our QB, who will no doubt again be running fer his life, will have a readily-built and legit excuse for pushing the balll where it should not go. Romo Will have the luxury of saying he had no running game because of the O line and will thow the ball downfield, al la Sid Gilman.
Too many interceptions by Romo? Who cares? he has his money?
Too many bad thows by Romo? Who cares, he is running for his life remember?
so the running game is forgotten this year because jerra made a huge investment in his QB and he wants his money's worth. Dez will be the go-to man. And Witten, perhaps on his way to a descent after being atop of the hill for so long, will get his share. After all, Romo is is friend.
Our draft? Jerra will play "football guy" and fool the prognosticators. He'll either trade up or down. He wont get a safety. He won't get a RB. He won't get that defensive lineman we need.
he will get some "big-name" guy, a tremendous athlete who Jerra will try to shoehorn into the team.
The secondary will remain porous.
Our fans will continue to sit on their hands on Sundays in the stadium and we will continue to gnash our collective teeths.
In the end? Another 8-8 season. Because that is the mediocre team we half become. Because of our cap, will will have barely enough money to sign backups from other teams to back up our mediocre players here.
That is a recipe for disaster. Because 8-8 teams will git you mediocre draft picks. Nothing special.
Jerra, in his world, is doing all he can. And he is proactive and that is good. But he is essstential like me and you. A fan basically who is playing building blocks with the dynamics of America's Team.
He tries hard. He willl fail.
For the next three years, expect no return to greatness. Only second-guessing giving Romo all the money for 8-8 seasons he'll turn in.
Get ready for the beginning of our nucular seveal seasons. the Skins and giants and even Eagles will vent their frustrations on us.
And all we will be able to do is wince and dream of our teams storied past.
I would say you are right on the money. I am not a Cowboys fan, but could not believe they would give Romo that kind of money. And after 2013, cap hell, for who?? A franchise QB, nope. But good enough to keep. That is about all. And other NFC East fans are jumping for joy.
This is a bad year for QB drafts. Romo had them by the ba*ls, and he knew it. And not much available in FA. Actually, if the Pats trade Mallet, I would like Palmer as a back-up. To me, a QB that never really got a fair shot. Some cheap hit by a Steelers player, and he was never the same again. And if I was a Cowboy fan, I would much rather have Palmer over Romo, at a much cheaper price, with all the skills- and then pick up other talent. So Romo gets some ridiculous contract for doing what??
So as a Pats fan, I am hoping they trade Mallet (for a 2nd round pick) and pick up Palmer as a back-up. That would make my day. But most likely, not going to happen. But one can hope.
BTW, I think the Colts and Skins did themselves very well picking up Luck and RGIII. The QB's of the future. And also like that kid out of San Fran, Kaepernick.
So I would not knock the OP, he was just being honest. Putting your head in the sand gets you no where. When we were bums, I still did not care, was still a fan. But the front office, a good GM, a good coach, well, there you have it.
I would say the OP is right on the money, 8-8 for a number of years to come. Without any chance of a change - you are locked into Romo for the next 3 years considering the contract. And cap hell after this year. What true fan of a team would be happy about that??
And will just say one more thing, I could not stand Bledsoe. Wanted him gone from year one. And if not for an injury, he would have still stayed as the QB of the Pats. Well, look at his arm, wow, and could he win a game or two. But consistency, none. Always just a short way away. When Bledsoe went down, and we were a losing team then, along comes a guy called Brady and wins the SB with the SAME TEAM. Wow, what a difference a day makes. And I heard all the same nonsense, how outraged the Pats fans were about replacing Bledsoe. It never ended. On and on. I became tone deaf, and stopped listening. It actually went on for years.
In my humble opinion, you should have moved on. Let him walk, no one would have paid him that kind of money. Inconsistent. I would rather have a bum playing and know what I was getting. On and off. On and off.
Oh man, I feel the pain for those of you that see this for what it is. A very bad decision. And again, the OP is right on the money.
And before anyone says it, I post because I used to be a fan of the Boys many years ago, many years, but find it interesting to post on here on occasion to give my opinion.
