Some QB's are much better entering games in relief than as starters and Weeden is one of those QB's. We've seen QB's over the years enter games in relief and light it up but when they get starting opportunities they suck. Last season vs Washington after Romo went down Weeden came in and played great completing 4 of 6 passes with a TD and finished the game with a 145.1 passer rating. He played so well that most here wished the Cowboys would have left him the rest of the game. He looked so good that many felt confident with him starting vs AZ the following week. He ended up looking so bad against AZ a majority of the board wanted to go with Dustin Vaughan as the backup.

Fast forward to yesterdays game Romo goes down in the 3rd quarter and Weeden who was sitting on the bench wearing a ball cap enters the game without even attempting a warm up throw and began slinging it like Dan Marino. Weeden finished the game 7-7 with a TD and a passer rating of 149.7. His numbers in relief with the Cowboys have been outstanding. Maybe the Cowboys should have him do his usual backup routine this week then call up Showers and have him take the opening snap on Sunday then have Weeden enter in relief. LOL

You figured this all out from 13 passes across 2 years and against 3 very different teams? You're a genius.

I've also figured out a solution. Come out and let Cole Beasley throw the first pass. Then bring in the great Brandon Weeden bench player.

You forgot the Colts game where he came in in mopup duty and was 1 for 1 with a 43-yard TD pass (158.3 rating). Maybe we can have him hypnotized to think he's entering games in relief of Romo instead of starting them.

That's elite bench player, thank you very much.

You don't put up ratings of 149-plus without being elite.

It is a small sample size, but I'd be lying if I said I wasn't wondering the same thing. It just seem's like night and day, with Weeden. But my thought process had one small variation from yours. Yesterday, the pressure to win was off of his shoulders. His focus was simply don't lose. We had the lead, we had the momentum (if that's what it could be described as), so all he had to do was protect the ball and the lead.

Let's talk about the Arizona game for a moment. That was one of the few games in which Arizona was completely healthy. Moreover, Arizona was the number one seed up until the last month of the season when they had so many quarterback injuries they left me a voicemail about a tryout.

Can we make a list of QB's that need a job right now?

Names of note:
Jason Campbell (wouldn't be a bad option)
Christian Ponder

anyone else?

Small sample size....

He has a pretty good sample size as a starter dating back to Cleveland he's 17-5 as a starter. Even in Cleveland he had at least one good relief performance vs Buffalo where had a TD and no turnovers.

Weeden is going to make you guys eat crow.Romo is going to be his back up.He looked as old yesterday as the Thanksgiving game last year.I love him but he got old.He won't quit makes too much money. The guard changed yesterday it happened to Romo just like it happend to the guy Romo replaced.Time marches on for all men.Wait and see if you don't believe me.

Didn't mention that game because the Cowboys had that one all wrapped up he was also 1-1 in relief vs JAX finishing with a 100.0 passer rating.

I'm not predicting failure for Weeden as the starter just pointing out his history in relief vs his starting history.

That's right. How could I forget Jacksonville. Weeden may be the best relief pitcher the NFL has ever seen. Too bad we need him to start.

I don't have much faith in Weeden. In fact, I was all for him being cut in Favor of a younger QB with more upside. However, he is now the starting QB, so I am going to be there Sunday pulling for him as hard as I do for Tony. I am going to say we will be ok. We have some very manageable games coming up and we should be able to win at least 3 maybe 4 of the next 7 games even with average to sub par play from the QB position. Brandon just can't give games away, protect the football. I believe this is the first time in his career he has been in the same system more than 1 year, so hopefully that helps him. He looked like he knew where he was going yesterday and made very confident throws. Maybe he has turned the corner and will prove us all wrong. I sure hope so.

You can identify his main problem pretty quickly.

If he can just cut down on careless mistakes that will be a huge step for us.

the Cardinals made a ton of QB's look terrible last year. Im going to wait and see.

True, but he looked terrible in Cleveland as the starter causing the Browns to give up on him after only 2 seasons. Even Hoyer won more games in Cleveland than Weeden. If it doesn't go well with Weeden at least some excuses could be made with the loss of Dez and the lack of a solid running game we've had so far. Without much of a running game that adds more concerns with Weeden at QB. He's not the QB you want carrying your team having to win games. You would like a situation where he can manage games but with the loss of Dez and a running game that hasn't been near what it was last season he's going to have a lot on his plate unless the D can play like it did yesterday while he's the QB.

I stopped reading after your first sentence. Maybe you made some good points but , no QB has looked good on the browns for about 30 years. Its a dysfunctional Organization.
