If its about Weeden they will lose every game he is in there. If its about the defense, OL, RBs and limiting Weeden to 25 throws or less then this team can tread water.

Let's talk about the Arizona game for a moment. That was one of the few games in which Arizona was completely healthy. Moreover, Arizona was the number one seed up until the last month of the season when they had so many quarterback injuries they left me a voicemail about a tryout.

Also the whole team didn't come to play that game. Dez was dropping easy passes and the Oline did not look good.

the Cardinals made a ton of QB's look terrible last year.

Yep. Weeden didn't do much worse than the quarterbacks who faced the Cardinals in the two games before that or the two games after that.

Carr (Oakland) 16-for-28, 173 yards, 0 TD, 0 int, 75.4 rating
Foles (Philadelphia) 36-for-62, 411 yards, 2 TD, 2 int, 75.4 rating
Weeden (Dallas) 18-for-33, 183 yards, 1 TD, 2 int, 55.5 rating
Davis (St. Louis) 17-for-30, 216 yards, 1 TD, 2 int, 62.6 rating
Stafford (Detroit) 18-for-30, 183 yards, 0 TD, 1 int, 63.6 rating

Weeden did have the lowest rating, but all of his numbers were similar to the other quarterbacks. (Foles had basically twice as many attempts as everyone else, but half of his numbers would be 18-for-31, 206 yards, 1 TD, 1 int -- again, very similar to Weeden.)

Let's just give Weeden a game or two to show whether we can survive with him until Romo returns.

thanks for these stats ... I also remember Murray and the OL having a really bad game that day.

Some QB's are much better entering games in relief than as starters and Weeden is one of those QB's. We've seen QB's over the years enter games in relief and light it up but when they get starting opportunities they suck. Last season vs Washington after Romo went down Weeden came in and played great completing 4 of 6 passes with a TD and finished the game with a 145.1 passer rating. He played so well that most here wished the Cowboys would have left him the rest of the game. He looked so good that many felt confident with him starting vs AZ the following week. He ended up looking so bad against AZ a majority of the board wanted to go with Dustin Vaughan as the backup.

Fast forward to yesterdays game Romo goes down in the 3rd quarter and Weeden who was sitting on the bench wearing a ball cap enters the game without even attempting a warm up throw and began slinging it like Dan Marino. Weeden finished the game 7-7 with a TD and a passer rating of 149.7. His numbers in relief with the Cowboys have been outstanding. Maybe the Cowboys should have him do his usual backup routine this week then call up Showers and have him take the opening snap on Sunday then have Weeden enter in relief. LOL

Arz was 1 game. He looked poor, heck Romo in his career has had poor games. I expect Cowboys to rally around Weeden and win games.

I stopped reading after your first sentence. Maybe you made some good points but , no QB has looked good on the browns for about 30 years. Its a dysfunctional Organization.

I figured someone would point that out Cleveland has been a graveyard for QB's for over 2 decades but Weeden was one of the worst they've had. When he was released he wasn't being offered any starting opportunities which is why he took a backup job. Despite all the QB's who've failed in Cleveland none of them have gone on to have success elsewhere. Hoyer got a starting opportunity with the Texans and was promptly benched.

Weeden is going to make you guys eat crow.Romo is going to be his back up.He looked as old yesterday as the Thanksgiving game last year.I love him but he got old.He won't quit makes too much money. The guard changed yesterday it happened to Romo just like it happend to the guy Romo replaced.Time marches on for all men.Wait and see if you don't believe me.

What did I just read?

You can identify his main problem pretty quickly.

If he can just cut down on careless mistakes that will be a huge step for us.

That means the line has to give him time because Weeden is a 3 step guy, he does not and should not hold onto the ball for very long. As long as our receivers know their assignments and where they're supposed to be we should be OK...I hope!

I mentioned he had plenty of starts in Cleveland and you won't find many QB's who've started for Cleveland that were any worse than Weeden. Although AZ had a solid defense it wasn't the Legion of Doom and you would have thought he could have played a little better with as much talent as he had around him. The Cowboys were a very good team last season and there was no excuse for him to stink as bad as he did in that game. He was so bad most of us gave up hope of winning that game by halftime.

I guess I'm the idiot for being the only one to respond to "Romo will be Weeden's backup."

I consider myself sucked.

which QB have not looked bad in Cleveland? How many QB and coaches has Cleveland gone through? I dont expect Weeden to carry the Cowboys. I think if the players around Weeden do their jobs this team can win games

You figured this all out from 13 passes across 2 years and against 3 very different teams? You're a genius.

I've also figured out a solution. Come out and let Cole Beasley throw the first pass. Then bring in the great Brandon Weeden bench player.

I mentioned he also played well in relief vs a solid Buffalo defense in 2013 helping Cleveland win that game. Weeden has attempted 15 passes in relief with the Cowboys completing 13 of them with 2 TD's.

I tend to agree with the premise, just not all of it. Weeden does seem to fit better coming in for relief. It is when he has a week to sit and think about it, things don't go so well. I equate that to the stud baseball player who shines in practice but chokes under the big lights.

I think he is capable of getting us a couple of wins but the offense needs to be catered to him. I hope the running/screen game is working because he will not win it on his own.

If after two games he looks horrid, what then? Just ride it out because he knows the offense? Bring in a new QB who will take weeks to learn the offense anyways?

We are in a pickle if he can't drive the bus..........

Bernie Kosar was the last solid QB Cleveland had and they've all looked bad since but Weeden was one of the worst of the worst in Cleveland. All they got out of him was 5 wins. A QB has to be looked at as hopeless to give up on them after only 2 seasons especially after investing a #1 pick. Again, I'm not saying the Cowboys can't win with Weeden but it's going to take a better running game and the kind of defense we saw yesterday to hang in until Romo returns. If the Cowboys start getting behind in games forcing Weeden to have to win games the Cowboys will be in serious trouble and anyone who's keeping it real knows it.

I don't have a lot of confidence in Weeden but I wouldn't have a lot of confidence in any backup QB. We will struggle the next couple months to score consistently. Romo was great at reading Ds and detecting blitzes. Teams are going to come for Weeden and without Dez, he will struggle at times.

Without Romo, Dez and our best RB last year, we are in big trouble on Offense. Hopefully the Defense picks it up and we can 4-4 without our stars.

Since 2000, they've had 14 different quarterbacks throw at least 100 passes. Weeden ranked just below the middle in passer rating and winning percentage --

PASSER RATING
Kelly Holcomb 83.3
Brian Hoyer 77.6
Trent Dilfer 76.9
Jason Campbell 76.9
Jeff Garcia 76.7
Seneca Wallace 76.6
Tim Couch 75.7
Colt McCoy 74.8
Brandon Weeden 71.8
Charlie Frye 71.1
Derek Anderson 69.7
Brady Quinn 66.8
Jake Delhomme 63.4
Doug Pederson 56.6

WINNING PERCENTAGE
Brian Hoyer 0.588 (10-7)
Derek Anderson 0.436 (17-22)
Tim Couch 0.426 (20-27)
Jake Delhomme 0.400 (2-3)
Trent Dilfer 0.364 (4-7)
Colt McCoy 0.333 (8-16)
Charlie Frye 0.318 (7-15)
Brandon Weeden 0.304 (7-16)
Kelly Holcomb 0.300 (6-14)
Jeff Garcia 0.273 (3-8)
Brady Quinn 0.267 (4-11)
Jason Campbell 0.111 (1-8)
Doug Pederson 0.091 (1-10)
Seneca Wallace 0.071 (1-13)

And yes, that is an ugly list of names.

recent year, kosar was a long time ago. Weeden played on a very poor team. He has a chance to help Dallas. Not carry the Cowboys but help. If others on team step up and defense can keep us in games we can win with Weeden

One thing that makes Weeden appear worse than a lot of those QB's on that list is the fact Cleveland used a #1 pick on him so the expectations placed on him were a lot greater than the expectations of a lot of those other QB's they brought in. I haven't checked but off the top of my head since Koser the Browns have used a #1 on Couch, Brady Quinn and Weeden. Of the QB's the Browns have taken #1 Weeden had the shortest stay. The problem with Cleveland is they've brought in a lot of castoffs over the years who failed elsewhere. QB's like Jeff Garcia who had some success in SF was in decline by the time he arrived in Cleveland.
