recent year, kosar was a long time ago. Weeden played on a very poor team. He has a chance to help Dallas. Not carry the Cowboys but help. If others on team step up and defense can keep us in games we can win with Weeden

Yes Kosar was a long time ago and he was the last solid QB that gave Cleveland stability at the position. They've missed on three #1's since and have played musical chairs with a long list of castoffs and declining veteran QB's. Weeden has a chance to help the Cowboys but he's going to need some help if there's going to be any chance of staying in the playoff race until Romo gets back. Like I mentioned if the Cowboys get behind in games especially by 2 scores or more it's going to be pretty damn tough to mount a comeback with Weeden and no Dez on the field.

If he's having to put the ball up a lot I don't see a lot of good coming from it. I was concerned about Romo having to air it out too much knowing it would put his health at more risk. With Weeden you worry about turnovers and his accuracy his career completion percentage is only 56%.. If the Cowboys keep going 3 and out or have too many short series of downs it's going to leave the defense on the field and it's bound to take its toll. We're going to be facing a real challenge without our triplets from last season. A team couldn't have a worse nightmare than what the Cowboys are facing right now.

I've also figured out a solution. Come out and let Cole Beasley throw the first pass. Then bring in the great Brandon Weeden bench player.

That could lead to Weeden having to play comeback. lol

Randle appears to be like Weeden much better in relief than a starter. :) Last year in relief Randle 6.7 a carry and so far this season as a starter 3.4 carry. He needs long runs to jack up his average.

the Cardinals made a ton of QB's look terrible last year. Im going to wait and see.

Great point
That's a tough D to play against
Weeden is starting Sunday even if we bring in a vet. So hopefully he can make some plays
The most important thing is the oline has to play much better and the D is going to have to get some turnovers
We won't win if we can't run and you can't run when you have penalties over and over putting you behind the chains
Play a clean game, protect Weeden and open some running lanes and Weeden has a shot at getting it done

I think it will be tough as well if we fall behind and put the entire offense on Weeden. I also think as many players as they gain experience especially at QB they can improve. Dallas considered Weeden the most improved player coming out of camp. I fully agree with anyone that Weeden will struggle if the Cowboys place the burden on him to carry this team however if defense goes out as they have and plays great and offensive line holds up for him, Weeden has some skill sets that can help this team win games until Romo can get back.

Can we make a list of QB's that need a job right now?

Names of note:
Jason Campbell (wouldn't be a bad option)
Christian Ponder

anyone else?

Looks like Ponder is on the invite/workout list. Might as well kick those tires to see what type of tread they have

If you seriously think Weeden is going to look so impressive in Romo's absence that we've seen the last of Romo as the starter you better find a good marinade for all that crow you'll be choking down.

It always amuses me the mental gymnastics people will go through to try and preserve being correct.

Weeden played well causes all manner of cognitive dissonance and people flail to make ends meet. Of course being wrong about Weeden being the worst QB ever never comes into the calculation.

Some QB's are much better entering games in relief than as starters and Weeden is one of those QB's. We've seen QB's over the years enter games in relief and light it up but when they get starting opportunities they suck. Last season vs Washington after Romo went down Weeden came in and played great completing 4 of 6 passes with a TD and finished the game with a 145.1 passer rating. He played so well that most here wished the Cowboys would have left him the rest of the game. He looked so good that many felt confident with him starting vs AZ the following week. He ended up looking so bad against AZ a majority of the board wanted to go with Dustin Vaughan as the backup.

Fast forward to yesterdays game Romo goes down in the 3rd quarter and Weeden who was sitting on the bench wearing a ball cap enters the game without even attempting a warm up throw and began slinging it like Dan Marino. Weeden finished the game 7-7 with a TD and a passer rating of 149.7. His numbers in relief with the Cowboys have been outstanding. Maybe the Cowboys should have him do his usual backup routine this week then call up Showers and have him take the opening snap on Sunday then have Weeden enter in relief. LOL

QBs does not need an apostrophe, it is plural for QB not a designation of propriety.

There were a few on this board last season that thought we might be seeing a changing of the guard after Weeden's 4 for 6 performance and a TD in relief of Romo vs Washington last season. lol Go back and read some of the comments that were being posted after that game as a few were living in the moment. A week later after Weeden's performance vs AZ he was being compared to Brad Johnson by many and a majority of the board wanted him cut and for the Cowboys to go with Dustin Vaughan as the backup. Now after Weeden's 7 for 7 performance and a TD vs Philly on Sunday we have a FAN claiming Romo is going to be Weeden's backup. How's that for living in the moment? The mood for some here changes like the weather after Romo's opening day performance one FAN was calling out all the Romo haters proclaiming Romo the greatest QB in Cowboys history now this week some think Romo is looking old and should retire. Last season many were dreading the thought of ever having to see Weeden again now a few a relishing the moment. There can't be a FAN base in the NFL more wackier and zanier than this FAN base.

I think Weeden will play right about at the NFL average...maybe better with this line.

But we really won't know until we know.

It probably helps him that this is the first time that he's had the same OC since he was in middle school.

This is exactly what I am talking about.

False equivalence and oversimplification abounds.

Falling behind will be the biggest concern with Weeden and it will happen how he responds to it remains to be seen. It's vital the Cowboys establish a running game that he can lean on or the issues he's had during his career that got him booted from Cleveland and carrying a clipboard with the Cowboys could rear it's ugly head. If he's able to play within himself the Cowboys have a chance to stay afloat with him until Romo returns but if he's being asked to win games like Romo was on opening day the Cowboys are going to end up in a lot of trouble. Although the defense looked great on Sunday some of that has to be attributed to how screwed up Philly's offense is. We can't expect that kind of defensive performance every week but the D does have to continue playing well.

The Cowboys can't afford to give up a lot of points putting Weeden in a position where he's having to engage in a shootout or having to force balls down the field to try and make something happen. Limiting his mistakes will be key along with whether he can be accurate enough to keep the offense on the field if the running game continues not being very effective. His career completion percentage is only 56% so the running game has to improve and the defense has to remain solid if the Cowboys are going to stay in then race until Romo gets back. The Cowboys are in good shape not only are they 2-0 but 2-0 within the division. It may only take 10 wins to win the East with Philly and NY struggling. I don't expect Washington to hang in so if the Cowboys can be at least 5-4 by the time Romo returns they'll be in good shape to make a strong run once the team is back to full strength.

The Browns organisation when Kosar was there is now the Baltimore Ravens.

The current Browns organisation that selected the other QBs, i.e. Quinn, Weeden, et al. are from the "new" Browns organisation, which was basically an expansion team.

For the most part I agree but I also tend to think players are capable of improving. This is the 1st time in his career he has played under the same Coordinator 2 years in a row. I think it is hard when you are uncomfortable with the speed of the game and on top of that unsure of what you are doing. Hard to lead when put in that situation. I honestly believe Weeden has the tools to be a good QB and I think if he can come out and do well and help the team win this upcoming game he will also gain confidence in himself. I watched a lot of Weeden at OSU I think if the players around Weeden step up and we can get a good running game going Weeden just may prove a lot of people wrong about him

Yep. Weeden didn't do much worse than the quarterbacks who faced the Cardinals in the two games before that or the two games after that.

Carr (Oakland) 16-for-28, 173 yards, 0 TD, 0 int, 75.4 rating
Foles (Philadelphia) 36-for-62, 411 yards, 2 TD, 2 int, 75.4 rating
Weeden (Dallas) 18-for-33, 183 yards, 1 TD, 2 int, 55.5 rating
Davis (St. Louis) 17-for-30, 216 yards, 1 TD, 2 int, 62.6 rating
Stafford (Detroit) 18-for-30, 183 yards, 0 TD, 1 int, 63.6 rating

Weeden did have the lowest rating, but all of his numbers were similar to the other quarterbacks. (Foles had basically twice as many attempts as everyone else, but half of his numbers would be 18-for-31, 206 yards, 1 TD, 1 int -- again, very similar to Weeden.)

Let's just give Weeden a game or two to show whether we can survive with him until Romo returns.

Wow. Those are some very telling stats. It's easy for us to sit back and say he was awful and "wow it was just freakin Arizona", but their defense was amazing last year.

I'm willing to give Weeden the benefit of the doubt and see how he does over this 7 game stretch.
