MEMORY LANE
The Commanders may have been the defending champions in 1992, but the Cowboys were all anyone could talk about after beating their arch rival, 23-10, to open the season on Monday Night Football (Sept. 7, 1992). The Cowboys jumped on the Commanders from the start at Texas Stadium, grabbing a 2-0 lead just 3:15 into the game after cornerback Isaac Holt blocked a punt out of the back of the end zone. And Emmitt Smith insured the Cowboys maintained that lead, becoming the first running back to compile four consecutive 100-yard performances against a Joe Gibbs-coached team on his 139-yard night – a game that seemingly foreshadowed what would be for the Cowboys in their championship-winning season.
