Just watched the top 10 Qb shootouts of all time and got me thinking. Should the game from last year be #1?

The #1 on the countdown was this:

Jets 51 Dolphins 45

Ken O'Brien:
29- 43 67.4% 479 YARDS 11.1 AVG 4TDs 1 INT
Dan Marino:
30 -50 60.0% 448 YARDS 9.0AVG 6 TDs 2 INTs

Game from last year:

Broncos 51 Cowboys 48

Peyton Manning:
33- 42 78.6% 414 YARDS 9.9 AVG 4TDs 1 INT
Tony Romo:
25 -36 69.4% 506 YARDS 14.1 AVG 5 TDs 1 INT

When I look at Romo's stats from that game, I just have to shake my head...If it had been against any other team, Dallas wins in a cake-walk...Romo does all that against what I feel will be the SB champions this year, and he is still blamed for the loss...could only happen to Tony...

At the start of the season, Romo showed that he could play with the big dogs.

As the season went on without a defense, he tried to do it all. But...unfortunately, Romo lost that game. He will never be the same now, after his back got hurt because he gets the hell beat out of him.

Defense wins the game.

Especially when he throws the pick that ends the game, essentially.

I think it would have been if it had a better ending. Both QBs were playing perfect games. It would have been fitting if one of them would have made a game winning drive. Romo's INT followed by Peyton's slow ball to wind down the clock and kick a field goal was about the least exciting ending you could have planned. I won't even get into Romo's history. Just from an entertainment standpoint, the ending ruined it.

2010 Packers vs Cardinals in the playoffs with Arizona winning 51-45.

Rodgers had 5 TDs (4 Passing, 1 Rushing), Warner had 5 TDs (All Passing), and they passed for 802 yards.

It had more touchdowns but less yards than Manning vs Romo 2013.

That's up there some where.

And you think that is what cost Dallas the game...you just proved my point...guess it did not occur to you that maybe, just maybe the Defense cost Dallas that game...but, by all means, keep on bashing Romo...

Considering it was a playoff game, I think this was the best shoot-out ever. And it remains the best game I have ever watched. When you look at the numbers, keep in mind it was from the 1981 season.
This game had everything and by far its the most exciting game I've ever watched. Andf I dont see how any other game can be considered a better shoot-out.

Game in the hands of Dallas. Drive down and kick the winning field goal. Romo throws a pick and Denver wins.

Is anything there incorrect?

If not, your point is rewriting history.

I think his point is that the Cowboys scored 48 points, not 14. In a normal football game, that wins hands down. To simply blame Romo (although he obviously deserves some blame) for the loss is just plain ignorant.

The team was in position to win. Regardless of how you got there, they needed a drive to get into field goal range. With the kicker of Dallas, that is about the 35 yard line.

All day Romo masterfully led the team down the field to score. This should have been simple.

But he made a mental error and cost the team the game.

You may call names as you like. It appears to me the apologists use that tactic when they get push back. But facts are facts. There was hope of winning the game, and a strong likelihood of same, until...

The interception.

Romo threw it. No other player was at fault for that pass.

Ergo, Romo is the goat that day, regardless of what he did to position the team to get the win. He failed.

I agree.

I still think that's the best game I've ever seen. Kellen Winslow was a beast in that game. They had to carry him off the field he was so exhausted.

Did we use a different playbook against Denver? We never came close replicating that performance.
This was the only game romo played that he looked confident throwing 20+ yards down field. Broncos D is not good. Yet when it mattered most, Tony did what Tony does. Everyone knew it was coming.

But no, I don't think it was one of the best shoot outs ever. Maybe if we would've won.. It was a good game to watch if you are a fan of another team. But I wouldn't try to make it more significant than what it was... One of the best games of the year, not one of the best ever. We lost.

There's no such thing as best shoot-out of all time. Shootouts are not quality football. If it's football with poor quality defense, it's poor quality football.

I don't know about QB shootout, but it's probably the best game I've ever watched.
Define best...

It was really entertaining and close, but neither team played a lick of defense. I don't think a game where teams combine to score nearly 100 points can be considered the best anything.
