Well, Dallas is right on par with Parcells….. a .500 coach.
The Cowboys, once again, have snatched defeat from the mouth of victory. Dallas had opportunity after opportunity to put this game away, yet just cannot make a key play in a big game to propel this team to success. Parcells has done a good job bring in talent to revive the Campo years. The talent is certainly there. There is just one problem…
… DARN FEW PLAYERS ARE ABLE TO SINK THE 8-BALL!!!
If there is any on facet to this Parcells defense that differs from Jimmy Johnson’s defense in the early 90’s this is it. Nobody wants to make a play.
On offense though, there is a huge difference.
The Cowboys are an average football team until they can get a few players that can sink the 8-Ball.
The good parts of this game? It all begins with Tony Romo.
Despite the loss, it really looks like Dallas has found its quarterback. In back-to-back hostile environments, the young Eastern Illinois guy appears to have ice in his veins. Whether it is 3rd and short, or 3rd and long, he is really making something happen. The pass to Witten, to set up Vandy’s blocked field goal, was a thing of beauty. The bomb to Owens was gorgeous as well. The 3rd down conversion to Crayton was radiant. The little flip to Barber was breathtaking. Could I use any other positive adjectives for Romo?
One thing for sure…
…ROMO DIDN’T LOSE THIS GAME!!!
Two other guys that didn’t lose this game were Marion Barber and Jason Witten. This Barber kid just gets better and better. What an outstanding compliment to Julius Jones (who is running tough as well). Hoyte has proven to be a good blocker. Despite a couple of miscues earlier in the game, Jason Witten was the guy Romo was looking for in crunchtime. Well, certainly not that 25 million dollar waste of space.
I wonder if Glenn’s quad problem prevented him from getting to that sideline pass in the second half? Also, why would you run a reverse with a receiver who has an injured leg? That’s okay, Andre “Turnstile” Gurode wiffed on his block anyway.
Now that I am throwing in some negative jabs, let me start dishing out some hey-makers.
Yeah, that 25 million piece of maggot vomit sure was impressive today. Hey, Superman, did you notice that when the game was on the line, Romo didn’t throw your way? Maybe he didn’t think you would be awake? Great Play Shakespeare! Don’t ever cry about not getting the ball again superstar!
Hey Roy, ever thought about looking for the ball? Well I guess you did. After all, one did bounce off that thick skull of yours. If you have looked up on the bomb to Lloyd, you would have found out that you had a better play on the ball than Lloyd! So what did you do? You nailed him when the ball was still in the air, and gave the Commanders about 40 yards! Smooth move Exlax!
The drop by Owens, followed up by the bonehead Williams’s interference penalty, changed the course of the game.
Greg Ellis has made many good plays this season. Unfortunately a trend is starting. Two games in a row now, the opponent has struck the Cowboys with an end around play on Ellis’ side. Dallas needs to find a way to defense this, or this will not be the last time we see this. Expect one of these from Arizona next week. If Greg cannot defend the perimeter, then get Burnett in there. He has speed.
With the exception of Demarcus Ware, where is the pass rush? Ware was the only one that applied any pressure. This was Mark Brunell behind center, not Carl Lewis. Again, this goes back to people not sinking the 8-ball. Dallas needs some players like this.
By the way, Julius Jones was not down in the end zone for the safety. He landed on the tackler and when his elbow or knees hit, the ball was beyond the goal line.
How in the world did that facemask warrant a 15-yard penalty at the end of the game? He barely grazed his mask! What a crock! Then again, if the special teams knew how to block for a field goal, there wouldn’t have been a problem.
FINAL ANALYSIS: Obviously there are problems on this football team that are much deeper than most of us fans think. The problems are not physical. The only game Dallas got out-physicalled in was the Giants debacle. There is a plethora of talent on this football team. Until the players solve the problems between their ears, .500 football is all we fans are going to see out of the Dallas Cowboys.
Win one, lose one, win one, and lose one. Now that Dallas lost this game, the Cowboys should win next week in the desert.
