Was kinda out of the loop this weekend, attempted to post once via my Blackberry, but its kinda a pain.
1) In regards to Cowboys final roster, cant say I see any major surprises. I really thought at least one of Proctor, McQuistan or Holland would get the axe, so its a little of a mild surprise to me that they all made it. On the other hand, if you look back at the preseason as a whole the OL in general did an adequate job, starters and reserves. So while none of the backups is a threat to push the starters for PT, its also a testament to how good our starting 5 really is too IMO.
2) If I were Miles Austin (and Sam Hurd too) I wouldnt stay injured too much too early. Ogletree to me looks like somebody that if he gets a shot to play, he might jump all over it and never relinquish the job. What a steal he is looking like.
3) Hats off again to Pat Watkins for his game the other night. He's a popular target for some to hate on, and he's never developed as much as we had all hoped. But I really do believe he was on the bubble to make the team, and to his credit he went out Friday and WON a job here. He still may never be what we had hoped, but I could definitely see some improvement from him. He also could be a real weapon on the punt and kick block team.
4) Too bad about Deangelo Smith, but I was glad we were able to keep the other guys we did on the PS. Eventually Mickens may develop into at least a #4 or #3 CB and he looked like he improved some to me as preseason wore on. Really liked what little I saw from Manual Johnson and he could eventually earn a spot on the active roster. Bright, Chandler and Dixon are good PS guys too IMO.
5) We need Romo to have a real shot in the postseason, beyond him though there are a half dozen guys we absolutely cant lose IMO without potentially crippling the team. On Offense I'd say Adams, Roy Williams and Felix Jones, and on defense Ware, Ratliff and Newman. We could survive missing these guys for a game or two here or there, but season ending injuries to any of these damages our postseason hopes.
6) We're beating up Tampa really good Sunday. I'm not going to throw out a 38-0 kind of prediction, but I do believe we are going to come out and win impressively.
7) Hey congrats Bob Stoops, you continue to prove me right in thinking you are THE most overrated coach in college football, hands down. I do think Jim Tressell and Kirk Ferentz warrant some votes though. What awful openers for both of those programs. Ohio State can prepare themselves for another beatdown at the hands of USC.
8) Bad weekend for my Georgia Bulldogs, Saturday was ironclad proof of how important the QB position is. Joe Cox is not a quality starter. I didnt come away with the impression that Oklahoma St was all that great, rather than it was more of Georgia being in for a long season.
9) My season predictions, NFC Dallas, New Orleans, Green Bay and Seattle as division winners, Giants and Bears as wildcards. AFC San Diego, New England, Pitt and Tennesse win divisions, Colts and Jets win wildcards.
10) Dallas ends the playoff drought bigtime in January.
