It was odd when he didn't sign immediately.

No doubt his agent was shopping him around. It wouldn't surprise me at all to see he sign for 50 or 100K over the vet minimum.

Coleman could be in the mix for at least a rotational role next season because Henry Melton and Nick Hayden probably aren't coming back.

IRVING, Texas – The Cowboys re-signed a pair of young defensive players on Friday that were expected to return in 2015.

The Cowboys officially re-signed exclusive-rights linebacker Cam Lawrence, along with free agent defensive tackle Davon Coleman on Friday. The club is expected to also retain their other two exclusive-rights free agents: guard Ron Leary and offensive tackle Darrion Weems.

Most exclusive rights free agents are undrafted, and once their respected team extends the minimum qualifying offer, they can only sign with their original team. So don’t expect Leary or Weems to go anywhere this year

Lawrence had 11 tackles in 2014, including a career-high seven in the season-finale win over the Commanders with both Anthony Hitchens and Rolando McClain out of the game. Lawrence also posted his first career sack in the win over Jacksonville in London.

Coleman, an undrafted rookie in 2014 from Arizona State, spent most of the season on the active roster before being cut on Nov. 22. He was re-signed to the practice squad for the rest of the year.

Coleman, Bishop, Waley, Gardner, Okeye ---all just depth, or opportunity to really contribute?

I'm still wondering if Colemans calf injury is what derailed him early or he just fell off..

We do have a lot of DL coming back. The question I want answered is, are they just JAG's, playmakers or something inbetween?

Never know for sure, right? Cards are stacked against them all, but Bishop, Coleman, and maybe even Gardener have all shown some potential.. We're talking 'Lisemore' levels here.

There are usually 1 or more players to rise up out of the masses each year. Wouldn't surprise me this year to see 6-8 new contributors this year.

I think you have to figure most will be JAG's or even less. But if the Cowboys got one solid contributor out of the group it would a nice bonus– and it could happen. Coleman and Bishop both flashed a wee bit of potential. We'll see what a full offseason along with a year's worth of NFL experience does for them in year #2.

Of the places we need help on DL I think 3 technique behind Crawford may be the best opportunity. It's the spot we likely don't use a lot of resources to fill so Whaley and Coleman will have a shot to take Melton's role. Jack Crawford as well.
