Again. Favre did it. Romo does it.
You don't want to understand that. That is on you.
More than one coach, one comes to mind, Jimmy Johnson, said sometimes you run the ball even if it isn't totally effective. You can't just go shotgun every time they stack the line. Sometimes a line has to win its battle.

I will defer to nfl coaches and not you.

Things look better now.
Happy day!

Spare me your simplistic homily. The coaches called a play and the QB ran it. It didn't work. No one's impressed by your crystal clear hindsight, or the weird alternate future between your ears where running plays against stacked lines work 100% of the time. Or for that matter, the weird alternate future where that game had any effect in missing the playoffs last year.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe even Garrett has thrown Romo under the bus by saying he has checked out of run plays.

People hear what they want to hear. I've never heard so many football simpletons fascinated by the ability to pick the correct option after watching the play unfold.

"We call that a 'smoke' or a 'flash,' Garrett explained. "That's something we have accompanying some runs if he gets a bad look. That's what happened on the interception. It was a run call that he threw the ball on."

As Chris Brown of Grantland explains, this was a "packaged" play. You can tell by seeing how the offensive line fires off like run blockers. Romo did not "change the play" as many have reported. He had the option to throw, and he saw something in the defense to call a pass.

Right after the second game of this season I posted a thought on Romo and the quarterback play when they have a running game. But this had more to do with the injured Romo than now.

But after seeing Romo heal, I think this validates what I was saying. You be the judge.

Aikman was a laser surgeon when he threw the ball. One of the hallmarks of that offense was the slant with Irvin. Michael has stated he could run that blindfolded and Troy would hit him in the hands nine out of ten times.

The master plan was to get a lead passing and then have Emmitt run out the clock. Your knew it, they knew it, everybody watching knew it. But there were times they needed that slant to move the sticks. Troy was robotic with that play, as well as so many others.

Toward the end of his career, when his back began to fail him, he became less so. The team had players that could run the routes - Irvin was gone - but Troy was not the same guy he was before.

What we saw during the 9ers game and a bit beyond was a stiff Romo who could not deliver the pass. Collinsworth made the point to show the difference when Romo was dragging his back leg instead of snapping his hips through the ball. So even with this masterful running game that began to show its strength early this season, Romo's health was preventing the offense to be what it could be.

We saw it wit Aikman, and now with Romo. So many want to suggest it was Emmitt that drove that train, and to a degree that is true. But it took Aikman and Irvin to make it what it was. So too, it takes Romo and Murray, and his back-ups to make this offense a beast.

And both of those examples are predicated on the fact they had offensive lines which mauled the other team.

Romo's return to health exemplifies that each part has a place in the whole, and while they have had Romo and ignored the running game, or the running game with a wounded Romo, the success rates were so much less because of one thing.

Balance.

And when you pretend you have the slightest idea what's going on in the huddle from the comfort of your couch, you embarrass yourself.

Come on now we all know Romo checks out of too many running plays in years past.

About time Romo is in the HOF discussion

Well, in the sense that we're discussing a Hall of Famer and Romo. That discussion for Romo is still a ways off and could only happen with quite a bit of playoff success. Even with his numbers, he might have to win a Super Bowl to get there because of the media's inaccurate perception of him. Don't think he can "Marino" it.

The thing is Dallas might be finally taking steps in that direction by establishing a running game to go along with the Romo-led passing attack. If we can balance the offense, it can make up some for mediocre defense. If we get more than mediocre defense, we stand a chance to contend.

It's too bad that we didn't have Romo ready to go in the San Fran game health/recoverywise because we should be 4-0 right now. ... Check that, we should be 3-1 because we probably should have lost the Rams game.

*Sigh*

How soon we forget, Romo has had a running game before, he just prefers to pass.. And we had a running game last year as well, just chose not to use it as much.....
