Top-5 best case scenario, Top-10 worst case. Even if Romo comes back and gets a few wins, this team isn't good enough to do better than 4-3 IMO. 6-10 or 5-11 is likely, which will still net us a Top-10 pick. I'll take it

Wrong. Romo is going to win us games and kill our chances of a Top 5 pick unfortunately. For shame.

What makes you say that? We're literally barely losing every game. With Romo, these are all easy victories. We're going 5-2 once he's back at the absolute worst, with 6-1 being more likely imo.

With the Packers suddenly reeling, the only "good" team we play is Carolina at home. And with Tony, I think we can beat them.

there always a trade up

The Dallas Cowboys executed a trade up into the No. 6 overall spot Thursday night, sending the 14th pick and a second-round selection to the St. Louis Rams.

in 2012 for Claiborne

Dream Off-Season:
-Cut Brandon Carr (unless he takes a serious pay cut)
-Fire Garrett and staff
-Don't re-sign Greg Hardy

Using Over the Cap's calculator, I re-signed Corey White and tendered Ronald Leary. I also designated Carr as a June 1 cut. After that, it projects $16 million of cap room.

Next to some free agents:
WR: Alshon Jeffery, Josh Gordon
DE: Muhammad Wilkerson
LB: Demario Davis, Courtney Upshaw, Zach Brown (1 of them)
CB: Janoris Jenkins,Brandon Boykin (both if possible)
Coaches: Sean Payton (and staff)

Getting these guys won't be cheap and I would imagine that Wilkerson is going to command a max. type contract. I think Jeffery, Jenkins, Boykin, and 1 of the LB's are all possible to sign collectively and stay under the cap. If we want Wilkerson, we will probably only have enough cap space for an additional 1 or at most 2 more guys. If that were the case, I'd go with Jenkins or Boykin and Jeffery. Gordon is another target but he would have to have a great workout and I also don't know what type of money he would command on the open market. If he could be had for cheap then that would be another guy to go after.

Now to the draft:
Projected Record: 4-12 (#5 Overall). I'm less than optimistic that we are going to win more 2 or 3 games for the rest of the season.
1. Jalen Ramsey-CB/S-Florida St.
2. Darron Lee-LB-Ohio St.
3. CJ Prosise-RB-Notre Dame
4. Charles Tapper-DE/DT-Oklahoma
4. Kevin Hogan-QB-Stanford

I'm not focusing on the 6th round picks because it's already a pain to project guys who will be available in the 4th round.
A potential backfield of Jenkins, Boykin, Jones, and Ramsey along with the guys we already have in place is something to build off of going forward. Lee is of the same mold as Ryan Shazier, which Dallas very high on, and fills a huge need at LB. CJ has all the tools to be a three down back in this offense, just needs to work on his fumbling issue. Tapper jumped off the film on the D-line from the Baylor game this weekend, I think he can be a very disruptive DT. Hogan may not be the sexy QB pick, but I think he brings enough potential to be a good NFL prospect. He runs a pro style offense at Stanford and has shown the ability to make good reads and throws.

I don't think any win we have will be easy.

Alshon is going to get a Dez contract, Wilkerson probably at least close to 12-14/yr, and Jenkins a Maxwell type deal. Those won't be happening. The Cowboys will play around in the low to mid tier range for any FAs and look to the draft for the rest.

My bad, I didn't quite get across what I meant to say in my original post. I meant if we can get Wilkerson, maybe we could land Boykin and someone like Gordon. If we can get Jeffery, I think it could be possible to also get Jenkins and maybe a LB with some creative financing.

I disagree on Jeffery's contract assessment though, I think Jeffery will get a Cobb/Maclin type and Jenkins will be in the 8-9 mil a year. Jeffery hasn't done anything worthy of the type of contract Dez has. If a team wants to overpay for him, so be it, but offering him something around 9-10 mil a year if more than fair. Wilkerson will be expensive which is why if we go after him, we won't have much room left for much else, which is why I suggested Gordon. Boykin should hopefully be cheap since he is barely playing this year. Another CB to look at would be Trumaine Johnson, Jenkins' teammate, who should be a little cheaper.

I disagree on Jeffrey. He's put up similar Yards receiving the last 2 years, with an inferior QB on a similar number of receptions. He's been dominant this season averaging over 100 yds/game. The only area Dez clearly has an advantage in is TDs, but he's the main red zone target where Jeffery was competing with Marshall and Bennett, both of whom are big RZ threats. He's a much better reciever than AJ Green who got paid close to Dez and on the open market will get something very similar to Dez, DT, Green and Julio.

On your post I didn't know you were talking about signing one of those guys and then lower salary players. I still think its unlikely to happen with the Cowboys looking to the future for extensions of current players.

Looks good, agree especially on Alshon or Gordon and a corner. Too bad it won't happen :(

Being from Illinois I have the unfortunate distinction of having to get bears games on local programming every week. I like Jeffery and would love to have him on the team. When he is playing and playing well, he looks great but that has been a problem during his career. It's articles like this that make me feel the way I feel about his contract.

I think he is someone to go after but if someone offers him more than 10 million a year, we need to walk away.

This team is building through the draft and signing mid to low tier free agents.

Forget Jeffrey.

Look at a guy like Reuben Randle who I believe will be a free agent.

Probably much more realistic from a financial standpoint. I have no expectations for the Cowboys to play in the deep end of the FA pool. I could see them have some real interest in Lamar Miller or possibly Doug Martin if his price is right, but neither of those are going to break the bank. Miller might get around the Ingram extension in FA and Martin may be in the 3-4m/ yr range.
