^This. The Cowboys are engaged behind the scenes about what is going to happen. And they seem to be doing it as a family.

So as you would expect, there is a touchy/feely component in play here that can't be ignored and is visible to all.

The Cowboys broke the Godfather rule. "Never let anyone outside the family know what you're thinking."

Everyone is simply waiting for Romo to be released. Which they view as inevitable.

Understand, but whoever are dumb for being a snatch. Don't make it public you will release him, get something for him.

Snatches get stitches.

Keep him until training camp if need be. Maybe until a week before the regular season starts.

There's very little real benefit of being in a hurry to move on.
this

why is this so hard to understand? yes, his contract hurts the cap, but so what? releasing him only frees up a paltry amount relatively. we wouldn't be able to do much with the savings.. and it's not like we have the ability to accomplish much overall anyways. it's going to take at minimum probably 3 more offseasons to get the defense in shape, so folks need to start coming to terms with the fact we're going to have a dog **** defense again in 2017

2018, though is a different story in regards to Romo's cap hit..

Just saying dude, he didn't take that. It wasn't a selfie......wasn't his wife either.

Give me a 1000 dollar hand shake I would do it.

I do like the Jerry, creating stuff.
Sure it was just Tony
You can see him setting it up.
He was in his gym, set up his ipad or whatever, and a did a quick little instagram thank you.

Let's face it no one, absolutely no one except Jerry and the Cowboys organization knows what is going on with Romo situation.

It will play out when Jerry decides it is time.

I hate to speculate but I can't help but feel like Jerry said to Tony "give me the weekend to try to trade you"
It was the other way around.
Jerry met with Romo on Tuesday and Romo applied no urgency or immediate time-line. He wanted Jerry to not feel rushed. Theyre both fine with this for now.

That may have changed things and why so many inside people where wrong on a direct release.
Their info was before that Tuesday eve meeting. Maybe

If it dragged out for a month or two, that might change things. A few days is not a big deal.

The media has a narrative and an agenda and have been overstepping in their efforts to "get the scoop" on this story all year long, and they have really jammed this up. Bottom line is that JJ has said all along (IMO-- he has spoken waaaaaay too much-- but what else is new) that he is open to keeping Romo this year. It's just that no one believes him b/c of the price tag.

The news of the release of Romo was leaked by reporters-- not anyone in the Dallas front office. Then-- everyone in the media freaked out when Dallas was trying to trade Romo-- the first day they were actually allowed to pursue a trade under league rules by the way. And the narrative now is that somehow JJ has lied to Romo and broken his word that he was going to release him. The truth is NO ONE but JJ and Romo knows what has or has not been said between them.

Anyone who thinks they know when Tony will or not be released is guessing. Anyone who knows when or how or who he will be traded to is also guessing. The only thing we know is that the longer this drags on-- the more intense the pressure will become for the front office to "do something". If they hold onto him-- they will have to be ok with paying him his salary, being viewed as screwing Tony over in general, and the perception of creating unnecessary pressure on Dak due to having Romo looking over his shoulder.

IMO-- keeping Romo as a backup even with all those downsides >>> than just cutting him. 1) we can afford his salary, even though its not ideal. 2) we have paid Tony a TON of money and by keeping him, we are honoring the contract. I'm fine with keeping an asset that has value for my football team-- which is exactly what Tony is. 3) Dak's rapid development is what has forced an early transition with Romo. He did not have an issue taking the job-- so I do not have an issue with him having the pressure to keep his job. He's a man and a leader. I expect both men to be professionals and handle their business.

Romo's contract is built for him to be released next year-- not 2017. This decision has to be made in what is in the best interest of the TEAM. Not Dak. Not Romo. The 2017 Dallas Cowboys would be a better team with Romo on the roster. Better talent-wise. Better financially. If another team wants to trade for Romo and pay fair value for an NFL franchise caliber QB-- I'd listen to offers.

Exactly.

Hate it or love it, public perception is real. The Cowboys organization is not going to want to take on the image of the team that holds onto players until other team's spending power dries up just to get a draft pick. The thought of holding onto him for any significant length of time is bizarre to me. That sets a poor example for players around the league and players in our locker room of how we treat franchise players.
