I don't see the urgency to do anything with Romo. We have until May 31st to release him if we want to eat the cap hit this year.

Let the Texans and others draft while they wait and wonder if they'll be the ones to land Romo.

What's it going to be then, eh?

So how is the draft going to affect their desire for Romo?

If I feel good enough to draft a QB early, why would I want to bother with Romo afterwards?

I guess it is too much for people to wrap their arms around that maybe, just maybe, the value of Romo is not even close to what we all thought it was.

It will continue....we been losing for decades yet we are still in the news.

Romo helps that. He's not going anywhere for a while.

Actually since the 1995 SB, we have had 7 losing seasons. And some of those were to be expected...a team loses Irvin, Smith, Aikman, you are going to have some down years, as we did with 3 straight 5-11 years with Campo. we had a 6-10 with Switzer and Parcells, then Wade goes 1-7, and fired and we end up 6-10. Then the injury riddled no QB / WR 2-14 year.
Throw in 4, 8-8 seasons, 3 of them in a row, and all "win or go home" games. One of those were in 199, again, the team was in decline.
So there were 10 winning seasons of 9-7 or better.

So that is not losing, however you can say it is, because we couldn't even advance to the NFCCG game.
So Garrett starts gutting the team, rebuilding, it takes time...it really shouldn't have taken this much time though. I get the injuries and all, as we had a lot of seasons with a lot of injuries, and no depth.
But it is time. No more excuses.

But I do know what you mean in your post. Just wanted to give some numbers.

sooo, what if June 1st comes and he is still here...NFL Network will announce a 3-hour segment for June 2nd on "we think tony is being cut now"....they will have the GM of the Texans as a guest, along with Elway....

....then, one of these threads will pop up on sunday June 4th "well, it is sunday and romo is still a cowboy" (not busting the OP, just sayin')...

If JJ wants media coverage, then do THAT....in theory, this "romo" scenario could last well into the summer, and if no legit offers are made for him, then I hope that is the case...I have always hated the idea of releasing him with zero compensation...let some of the other teams fan bases start to get nervous and apply pressure to their FO's when they have no legit QB's...we have two, let's keep it that way until someone makes it worth our while to NOT be that way

so after all tony has given the cowboys lets just keep messing him over more

This is the crux of the problem the team is in. People who think like this. This is professional sports and everyone knows going in that you aren't guaranteed anything. All players know that a younger guy may come along one day and take your spot and leave you in limbo either waiting to be traded or released. And I'm sick and tired of this "all Romo did for us" attitude. I love Romo. He gave us some very memorable moments and rescued us from the 5-11 years but he also screwed up multiple opportunities for deep playoff runs. I call the Romo years a wash. Equal parts good and bad. That doesn't get you special treatment in my book. That gets you "You want to go somewhere and start? Well, sit down, hold your tongue, and we'll see what we can do for you." He is under contract and the team has every right to want value in return. All this goodwill is a load of crap. When did any player sign with any team because of the way they treated players in the past? That is a myth. They sign for money! Dallas has treated players well, yet just got screwed over in recent years by 2 different players. That arguement doesn't hold water. I say do what you must to force a pick or player from the team that Romo next suits up for.

I wonder what story that they can come up with today and are they going to continue to do this every day until the draft?
Why do they have to? It is what it is. Not much market, no need to just cut n go to make you happy.

Houston has really painted themselves into a corner.
There really is no one else out there and Jerry know it. They wont turn to Savage or Weeden for a full season. Other than Cutler what else can this team that feels they are a playoff ready do? If they held off for a week on the Cleveland trade (its not like someone else would have stepped up) Romo probably would have been released already. The trade showed their hand to early and now Jerrys playing it. He's not going to let the cross town rival get him for nothing. Houston has to blink now because of the trade or they throw their season away.

So how does that help us this summer with attention on the Cowboys. Keep him all summer, media drama.

We can talk about him June 1st.
It could help them if they end up keeping him or if they trade him.

They will make a decision before the draft. Probably soon cause Jerry likes Romo so much. He is trying to trade him but they already made it clear they would only trade him to a team he wanted to play for. That hurts his trade value because all the teams interested figures he will be released.
Drew Bledsoe didn't get traded by New England until April 22nd. Should it be different for Romo?

I don't think he is going anywhere. Finding money for FA is non issue. Since there is no trade market you go into 2017 with best 1-2 QB tandem in league.
They should go for that and then they will get a trade offer that they like.

I wouldn't be surprised at all if this doesn't go into the slow road mode until draft day. I can see an offer on the table from Jacksonville that includes a Romo restructure and conditional on Jacksonville drafting Fournet. Then Jerry flips the bird at Houston and Denver. There may still be some Texas Holdem going on here.
Jacksonville should offer their 3rd round pick. They could then take the running back from LSU with pick 4 and another good player with their 2nd pick and all of a sudden they are good with Romo and the free agents that they have signed. They could also take a different player with pick 4 and Mixon with their 2nd round pick.

Yep
The team has never had a single losing season when Romo has starterd the majority of the games.
If fact, they are about 30 games over .500 with him starting...which is near the best in the league

It'd be great to get a 3rd.
Not sure how Jax feels about Bortles. He was better two years than last year

I have a feeling that their coach would like to have Romo and Romo could help Bortles get better.
