Sanchez's mechanics are pretty good. He just could never get used to the speed of the game and being able to anticipate his throws.

All QB's have some work to do on their mechanics coming out of college. It's just a matter if it's a throwing motion issue or a footwork issue (or both). From what I've seen footwork issues can be worked on an offseason and be corrected over that time. If you're in a WCO where the footwork is so precise, that may be a longer time, but still correctable.

Throwing motion issues may never get fixed. Romo had throwing motion issues, but he had 3 years off to work on them. When you start playing QB's with throwing motion issues before they fix them, they end up resorting to their old throwing motion and never really quite correct them. That's the problem for Wentz, just like it was for Randall Cunningham, Byron Leftwich and Jason Campbell. They had elongated throwing motions and started in their rookie year and never fixed the problem.

But hey, Carson audibles into different plays before the snap...so that makes him the next Peyton Manning.

I will say this, good for him for wanting to improve his mechanics. Seem like some get caught up they become complacent where they are at as a NFL player. Especially at a position like QB where you can stick around for a decade even if you suck lol, if you got the "measurables".

Curious to see if it actually works or he goes back to old habits.

Very good points. Throw in Tebow as well. He worked on, but never really improved his mechanics..

He needs to.
The guy has talent, but that delivery is not compact enough
People forget hes a small school guy. That should mean theres plenty of room for upside.

Still, bottom line is
:igglestrophy:

He only had 612 pass attempts in 4 years of college ball. That is a relatively low number of attempts by today's standards.

Very good points. Throw in Tebow as well. He worked on, but never really improved his mechanics..

Tebow improved his mechanics when he went to that biomechanics training school and then played for the Eagles. The problem was that by then his anticipation was terrible. I remember one play in preseason where Tebow threw a TD pass and his mechanics looked good and he threw it into a pretty tight window and everybody thought he was resurrected...but in reality he was way too late on a fairly simple read and the WR bailed him out with a great catch. I would be willing to bet that is when Chip Kelly and company knew that Tebow didn't have it.

There's more to being a QB that good mechanics, but mechanics are very important. The problem for Tebow is that he really needed to work on his mechanics when he was younger and get them down. He was younger at that point, so he had more neuroplasticity to pick up those mechanics quickly and ingrain them permanently. Then he could work on being an actual QB, reading defenses, looking downfield while feeling pressure, anticipating throws, working from under center, commanding a huddle, etc.

Wentz is less likely to get make that major change in his throwing motion because he doesn't have the time in the offseason that Tebow had to completely change his throwing mechanics as Tebow worked extensively on his throwing motion every day for over a year and wasn't playing for another team and didn't have to watch game tape and deal with all of the responsibilities that a starting QB deals with.

That was my 'clause' if we were to draft Wentz....he had to sit his rookie year for me to want us to draft him. His throwing motion mechanics are bad and he needs to sit at least 1 year and work on them and be protective about his progress.

I have been saying he has issues with his mechanics since the preseason game he played in while the media, especially the former quarterbacks, drooled over him while never once mentioning his mechanics issues at all.

I agree. I still think he's going to be a good player although I desperately hope he's a total bust.
