Very good points. Throw in Tebow as well. He worked on, but never really improved his mechanics..
Tebow improved his mechanics when he went to that biomechanics training school and then played for the Eagles. The problem was that by then his anticipation was terrible. I remember one play in preseason where Tebow threw a TD pass and his mechanics looked good and he threw it into a pretty tight window and everybody thought he was resurrected...but in reality he was way too late on a fairly simple read and the WR bailed him out with a great catch. I would be willing to bet that is when Chip Kelly and company knew that Tebow didn't have it.
There's more to being a QB that good mechanics, but mechanics are very important. The problem for Tebow is that he really needed to work on his mechanics when he was younger and get them down. He was younger at that point, so he had more neuroplasticity to pick up those mechanics quickly and ingrain them permanently. Then he could work on being an actual QB, reading defenses, looking downfield while feeling pressure, anticipating throws, working from under center, commanding a huddle, etc.
Wentz is less likely to get make that major change in his throwing motion because he doesn't have the time in the offseason that Tebow had to completely change his throwing mechanics as Tebow worked extensively on his throwing motion every day for over a year and wasn't playing for another team and didn't have to watch game tape and deal with all of the responsibilities that a starting QB deals with.
That was my 'clause' if we were to draft Wentz....he had to sit his rookie year for me to want us to draft him. His throwing motion mechanics are bad and he needs to sit at least 1 year and work on them and be protective about his progress.
