Westbrook injury might be more serious

Source: Westbrook's surgery is a serious procedure
The surgery Brian Westbrook will undergo tomorrow morning in Baltimore is a serious procedure, according to a source close to the situation.

"I'm just concerned that it is being underplayed," the source said. "It's a lot more than a little spur and it's much more than the knee arthroscopy he had (in February)."

Both a team source and Westbrook's agent Todd France downplayed the significance of the surgery, which the team announced late Wednesday night.

"It's just some bone spurs," France told ESPN.com Wednesday.

The agent also described the surgery as "minor" and a team source said it wasn't "a major procedure."

Exactly how serious Westbrook's surgery will be won't be known until after Dr. Mark Myerson completes the procedure. Only Myerson can give a clear timetable of how long it will take Westbrook to recover and he won't be able to do that until after he has seen the extent of the damage in the running back's right ankle.

The Eagles continued their camp this morning with Lorenzo Booker getting the majority of snaps with the first-team offense. The third-year running back talked about Westbrook afterward.

"Brian played with those injuries all last year and now he's getting a chance to clean it up," Booker said. "That's one of the tougher guys I've ever been around, so I don't see him missing any significant time. He's going to miss the things that he can afford to miss, which is the preseason and OTAs. What can he possibly learn or prove in the preseason?"

I can't hope for a serious problem but I can't root for the Eagles either.

While I hope he's okay and will get a full recovery (always wish well on human beings) I also hope that the Eagles suck this season and that Westbrook takes his time getting back into football ;)

I wonder if E-Gal fans are calling him injury prone.

Somehow I doubt he's being treated in the same manner as Terence Newman.....and I thought it was eagles fans that were stupid and prone to hate.

I hope the best for Westbrook and hope he can get back out on the field this season. I don't take much satisfaction beating teams due to key injuries I would just as soon beat Philly with a healthy Westbrook in the lineup

Makes you wonder if it isn't a cyst like Glenn had or even more serious, a staph infection like Manning had.

LeSean McCoy shooting up fantasy draft boards.

McCoy is going to be a good one. It makes me sick that they got DeSean Jackson, Maclin, and McCoy for the next 5+ years.

I have no problem beating any team whether its at full strength or not. In 10 years no one cares or remembers. A win is a win.

I've never understood why they have never drafted another rb in the top rounds but then again they are a pass happy team...

I agree. Injuries are part of the game but having said that I don't wish that players get injured or hope he can't play. A win is a win but a win in more impressive when you beat quality teams at full strength. When the Cowboys beat the 9ers in the NFC Championship they had all their horses as did we and it made for one of the NFL greatest games played and for me as a fan the satisfaction that we beat a top team with their top players in the game was great and left no doubt who the best team was

Westbrook is injury prone. He's still the black mamba of RBs in the NFL, too. I won't miss him when he retires but I don't hope for his injury to be serious.

I wish Westbrook the best and hope he recovers but if he doesn't come back this season I wouldn't lose any sleep over it. I agree with the poster that said basically a win is a win. If he is there I hope we beat them and if he isn't we better beat them by 30.

Agreed. I think their new RB McCoy is going to be a good backup for Westbrook. They aren't going to be as easy to beat if Westbrook is out of the lineup. Course I don't know if their D is going to be as good either.

Why? Maclin and McCoy haven't proven anything, and Jackson has only proven he can beat Roy Williams and Pacman Jones deep, really.

I didn't even finish reading it.

Oh, the drama of the almighty, overrated, in Dallas but not the NFL, Brian Westbrook and his new injury....

He will come out with his cape on like he does 95% of the time.
