Yes, we had lean years leading up to this moment, but we had Parcels we had credibility. We had a damn good football team. We were still considered one of the top premier franchises to play for.

This hurt like hell it still hurts in many ways it ruined Tony Romo’s career before it even got started.

We became the Charlie Brown of the NFL, the laughing stock, the Butt of the joke

I object

He was the media darling up until that moment. The first ESPN show after the game was fairly gentle. The second laying a lot of the blame at his feet. The third was full on war against him. Within an hour, hour & a half it had completely flipped & they were tearing him down just as fast as they built him up.

Sometimes I sit back and imagine what could have happened if the field goal was made and the Cowboys won. I can imagine all I want because it didn't happen.

But if it did happen...

In the divisional round next week, the Cowboys would be in Chicago while the Saints would be in Philadelphia.

Chicago had a stout defense that took away the ball. They had a good ground game but their passing game was extremely suspect with Rex Grossman.

If the Cowboys managed to escape the Bears they would be in the NFC championship game against the Saints and rookie HC Sean Payton. That would have been a game.

Despite losing to the Saints in the regular season, I think the Cowboys 3-4 defense would have given Brees some problems. The Cowboys were getting better and they would have peaked at this time.

It's possible they might have won. They wouldn't be favored, of course, but there was a possibility.

Imagine, because that is all we can do.....imagine the Cowboys in the Super Bowl, Romo's first season starting, Parcells in the last year of his contract.

If the Cowboys had ended up in the Super Bowl that year, would Parcells have stayed? I say yes.

What would the next 3-5 years have looked like then?

LOL....so many "what ifs" in my time as a Cowboys fan.

It's odd how opinions differ so much about that play. For one, it wasn't a game winning kick. The Seahawks would have had 1:15 left and a timeout of 2 to get into fg range.

Secondly, the Cowboys weren't a very good team that year. We weren't going anywhere, win or lose. I wasn't bothered at all by that loss.

Fun to think of alternative realities, this moment, the Dez no catch, the Jackie Smith dropped pass top the list of playoff blunders. I guess there were also missed opportunities in the divisonal game against the Giants too.

If Romo didn't fumble the ball and the field goal was made the Seahawks still had plenty of time to go win the game. I remember thinking not scoring there could be the game because all the Seahawks needed was a field goal. If Romo manages to get in for that td I think the Cowboys end up advancing.
