We've never gotten over this moment this was the moment of our downfall

That would've been a home game if Parcells had started Romo Game 1
I stayed up late watching the Seattle game, most of my friends thought we lost and I said nope we won.

It's odd how opinions differ so much about that play. For one, it wasn't a game winning kick. The Seahawks would have had 1:15 left and a timeout of 2 to get into fg range.

Secondly, the Cowboys weren't a very good team that year. We weren't going anywhere, win or lose. I wasn't bothered at all by that loss.
Agree ^^^^

Yes, we had lean years leading up to this moment, but we had Parcels we had credibility. We had a damn good football team. We were still considered one of the top premier franchises to play for.

This hurt like hell it still hurts in many ways it ruined Tony Romo’s career before it even got started.

We became the Charlie Brown of the NFL, the laughing stock, the Butt of the joke

We didn't lose because of Romo's fumbled snap. We were only in that game because of Romo. Seattle got the ball back and IF our defense can force a 3-and-out, there is still time to get a field goal. But our defense let Seattle run it right down our throat and game over.

Most of our playoff losses the past 30 seasons are because the defense Jerry built can't make a critical stop.

I never blamed him for that. I blamed a coach having the starting QB as a place holder.

The team wasn't as good as you remember. It was 20th in points against. Got drubbed at HOME by the Saints 42 - 17 in week 14 (only game I ever saw at Texas Stadium). Got swept by the Eagles (14 and 16 point losses). In fact, it would take three more seasons before the Cowboys fielded a better team than the Eagles (2009).

Seattle was one thing but a wildcard team (#5 seed) going on the road to beat the Bears, Eagles and/or the Saints that year seems like a pretty long stretch of the imagination. Couple that with the conservative nature of Parcells near the end and it spells early playoff exit any way you want to read it. Parcells let on early in 2006 that it was likely his last year in Dallas. They were +1 in turnover differential and still lost to Seattle.

The botched FG attempt didn't ruin Romo's career. It became a vacuous, irrational and illogical point of disparagement for Romo. A really inconsequential play compared to his entire career as the starter in Dallas. Place-holding for a kick has absolutely nothing to do with playing quarterback at a high level...which he did for most of his career. A master of improvisation...before his body started betraying him.
Agree. We didn't have the team for a deep playoff run.

Yes, they wasted so many before for Tony. I know what they did recently.
You forgot Milton

Milton was a 5 and when you get down to 5’s ok it’s maybe worth the risk . Rush & Lance had to go so I could almost see the Milton deal

Yes.. if Bledslow hadn't been sulking on the bench it wouldn't have happened.

Mind you I will continue to say Witten got the 1st down til the day I die.

We absolutely did lose that game because Romo choked. The defense might have gotten the stop. We don't know because Romo couldn't handle a basic football play when it mattered most, just like in the Denver game. Played great all game until the moment of truth, Then he choked and threw a blatant game ending pick.

Playing great but then choking the game away at the worst possible moment does not grant you the benefit of "we didn't lose because of him". It's the exact opposite. We lost specifically because of him.

In Seattle, we should have won that game going away. They were playing corners that had been on the couch like a week before. A complete team effort on mistakes plus some unfortunate plays is the real reason we lost. Not one play.

Against Denver, the defender pushed an OL into him tripping him just as he was throwing. Let's be fair, that's not choking that's the other team is playing to disrupt your efforts & they got just enough at just the right time.

That was some Hoo-Doo.......wish you wouldn't have reminded us. Thanks XXLMike.

Sometimes I sit back and imagine what could have happened if the field goal was made and the Cowboys won. I can imagine all I want because it didn't happen.

But if it did happen...

In the divisional round next week, the Cowboys would be in Chicago while the Saints would be in Philadelphia.

Chicago had a stout defense that took away the ball. They had a good ground game but their passing game was extremely suspect with Rex Grossman.

If the Cowboys managed to escape the Bears they would be in the NFC championship game against the Saints and rookie HC Sean Payton. That would have been a game.

Despite losing to the Saints in the regular season, I think the Cowboys 3-4 defense would have given Brees some problems. The Cowboys were getting better and they would have peaked at this time.

It's possible they might have won. They wouldn't be favored, of course, but there was a possibility.

Imagine, because that is all we can do.....imagine the Cowboys in the Super Bowl, Romo's first season starting, Parcells in the last year of his contract.

If the Cowboys had ended up in the Super Bowl that year, would Parcells have stayed? I say yes.

What would the next 3-5 years have looked like then?

LOL....so many "what ifs" in my time as a Cowboys fan.
I wish Parcells had stayed for the 07 season. That team was stacked and under his guidance and discipline they could been great. Granted that was the Patriots best team ever. Imagine Parcells vs Belichek for all the marbles!
