We interviewed both Hall of Fame coach Don Shula and former Commanders quarterback Joe Theismann tonight on Tylock Lasik SportsTalk (6:30 PM, M-F, KFWD, Channel 52). I asked Shula if he believed Wade Phillips could indeed make the transition from softie to meanie next season.

Shula said he thought Wade should just be himself and continue to exhibit the traits that brought him this far in his career. That would seem to indicate Shula didn't believe Wade could make the rapid transition to being the disciplinarian out of the blue. Shula also told me he believes Tony Romo and the Cowboys have the talent to win next season.

As for Theismann, he has always been a vocal critic of the Cowboys under Jerry Jones. However, he was quite complimentary tonight, especially towards Romo. He said he believed Tony needs to adapt to being the "ringleader of a circus" and was quick to point out that he was in the same role in Washington

Jeez, do people get this stuff wrong on purpose or what?

Wade said he was gonna have tougher practices, not turn into something he isn't...What a load.

Hey Joe, Washington is not big or important enough to ever be a circus; a puppet-show maybe, but a Circus? Please!

And by the way, how's the leg doing? SNAP! Sorry, that one never gets old! :D :laugh2: :D

Wade should be himself. I think he should make them practice harder though. I don't know how you can teach or evaluate tackling or blocking problems without practicing it.

I agree. I expect Wade to turn into some hard nose coach but I think you can put together a different approach when it comes to dealing with practice and dealing with players. Wade has always treated players as men it is time they start acting like it and if not handing out fines or benching has nothing to do with being hard nosed

That's sad and yes it does get old. Virtually the equivalent of an Eagles fan asking Irvin how the necks doing? POP!

We're Cowboy fans, how about we hold ourselves up to a little higher moral standard. We do after all ask for the same in return.

This is the problem with so many writers today. They take what someone says and twist it to what they assume it means.

Shula didn't say or even indication in this that he didn't think Phillips could become a disciplinarian.

I agree Cowboys2008! Very Bush League there, **. Hate the Skins all you want, but these guys are playing a game, why would you revel in the fact that anyone lost their career b/c of an injury? Even when it happened, I didn't enjoy it! A gruesome injury, even to a hated opponent, isn't good for football and not something to be celebrated.
OKAY, I'M OFF MY SOAPBOX, CARRY ON!!!
