What 4-5 changes would you make?

What four or five things would you do right now (play calling, game strategy or personnel) to try and make the most out of the rest of the season?

Here are mine:

1. Quit running TO deep so often. Use Terry for those routes. TO drops too many deep balls, runs out of bounds and doesn't seem to adjust. Run more quick patterns to TO early to loosen up the defense (see Carolina and Tampa game plans).
2. Make a change at DL. Bench Spears. We need to send a message and Spears sucks.
3. Don't give up on the run so fast. Stay with JJ or Barber longer to keep the D off the field.
4. Bench Henry for Glenn or Reeves or someone else. I think we are playing too many guys hurt. Guys need to fear for their jobs. Send a message. Make a change.

Surprisingly, Henry actually had a pretty decent game last night.

Now to answer your question (for next year):

1. Get a new RG.
2. Spend our first rounder on Anthony Spencer and move Carpenter back behind James and watch him take the spot from James in the offseason.
3. Stop throwing deep balls when we should be running the ball.
4. Get a new DC.

1. Bench Roy or put him on IR (if hurt) he is doing NOTHING. Put in Elam.
2. Put Owens in the slot, get him involved. Be creative. Do a reverse, SOMETHING!
3. Move Ware around. He should never be in the same spot. Bull rushes would be banned for all d-lineman.
4. Take all offensive and defensive play calling away from Bill. Let the team play and not worry about mistakes. Let the guys have fun again!

1. I would probably change to a 4-3, although I don't know how realistic that is.

2. I would probably start Hatcher and Coleman if we're going to stay with the 3-4. From what I've seen, they seem to have more catalytic ability than Spears and Canty.

3. I would move Ware around even more, stunt him, blitz him, get more exotic.

4. I would start Barber. I'm really not sure about the JJ and Barber thing, but this team needs a spark and maybe Barber could give it.

5. I would run a lot of spread formations with 3WR and some empty backfield sets.

6. I would put the game on Romo. No matter what happened last night he's the best thing we've got going. He can make plays out of nothing and I just don't trust our line enough to put it on them. To have 1st and goal at the 1 and to run it 4 times and not get it means we don't have the line to get it done. We need to play pass in that situation and try to let Romo make a play.

7. If (and it's a big IF) TO is being a cancer I would suspend him and move on. He's a great talent but we can do things without him.

8. I would be aggressive on offense because our defense is terrible. We had a 4th and 2 or 3 on our first drive at the Philly 40. I would go for that in the future. We punted Eagles got it at their 10 and they drove all the way down the field.

Right now....

1. Stunt once. It may shock the other team.

2. Move Ware around more.

3. Blitz 5 instead of 6 or 7. Our blitz disguise sucks, maybe we won't get destroyed every time we blitz by just sending 5 guys.

4. Start yanking Jones quicker if he doesn't show up to play.

5. Put Parrish in at SS in the nickel and move Roy to LB in the nickel. It's at least worth a try once or twice.

there is nothing we can change today that is going to make any real difference:

1) let Parcells go...the game has passed him by and we're never winning big with him no matter what changes we make to the players (and since he's handpicked virtually everybody, he has nobody to blame there but himself if its a problem with the players)

2) all the assistants need to go...none of these guys are quality coaches

3) go back to the 4-3...the players here now fit that scheme better anyway IMO

4) upgrade the talent on the OL..mainly Rivera needs to be replaced, if I could get a quality LT prospect via free agency or the draft, I'd move Adams to RT

5) I didnt want Owens here to begin with, but he hasnt been the biggest problem either...he has produced 12 tds and made a difference in how defenses play us...if he is gone though we need another quality WR...I do like Crayton though

Henry should be the least of our worries. The much bigger problem is a defense that's supposed to apply pressure but doing very little of that.

1. Our front 7 is big but slow and its killing us. Ware and Ayodele are the only defenders among our front 7 IMO who consitently "make plays" and even that can be debated.

2. Acquire a starting RB that has vision and can break ankle tackles.

3. Rivera is done. Acquire an upgrade

4. Add speed to the entire secondary. Of all our CBs and Ss only Newman shows an ability to be a factor 20+ yds downfield. that's a joke.

5.If you cut TO, you better acquire a talented WR to take his space because this WR corps minus TO aint gonna cut it.

  1. Play more Man-Zone and let our cornors do their job when we blitz
  2. Implement more exotic pass rush plays even though it could weaken the rushing front. The current setup isn't working, we have to try something.
  3. Play more four wide sets
  4. Bench Miles Austin as fumbles in the last three games is unacceptable.
  5. Try a few trick plays to open up the offense

1. Fire Zimmer
2. Find a FS
3. Replace Rivera
4. Upgrade at OLB
5. Find a DE who can make a play or 2
6. Use Newman more like we use to use Deion. Give Henry help over the top put roy in the box.
7. Stop running draw plays every single time its 2nd and 12 or more.
8. Stop playing soft defenses on 1st and 2nd and 15 or more. Everytime a team gets in those situations Dallas gets soft and gives up 10 or more yards turning it into 3rd and short. Keep the pressure on.

1) Sign a new defensive coordinator, Zimmer has been in Dallas way too long

2) New HC

3) New RG, Rivera sucks.

4) Sign a veteran FS, give Watkins some time to learn behind that veteran.

5) Sign Adalius Thomas.

and nothing we could do now, is going to change anything

Parcells isnt going to change the way he wants the defense played, and even he if were Zimmer isnt capable of carrying it out...

the problem isnt the players...you cant bench one or two guys and somehow see improved results

its been 4 years of absolute mediocrity despite a vastly upgraded roster...Parcells has done a good job with his grocery shopping, but an awful job in the kitchen

OK

1) start Parrish instead of a 5th round draft pick at FS

2) play Roy at the LOS

3) bench Spears and Canty

4) give Burnett a chance

1. get rid of Zimmer today, along with anyone who has ever spoken highly of him.

2.Sit Rivera on the bench, and put someone else in there. Play minus a right guard if need be.

3.Put TO on IR for the next 5 years. Better yet call him and tell him practice was cancelled and have someone empty his locker and deliver it to him. Tell him the rest of the season was cancelled.

4.Look at film of the the SD defense, especially blitzes. They may learn something other than sending our players to run right into their lineman.

5.Run shorter, crossing routes instead of throwing deep on every pass play.

Yeah, sorry. Here's my "right now" changes:

1. Run a lot of "West Coast" patterns for TO. It's clear that he owns these routes. Tony seems to excel on these types of patterns as well.

2. It's probably too late to do anything about Rivera right now. We could possibly move Gurode over to RG and have Johnson play center. Now may be the best time to try it since we're not playing for anything against Detroit.

3. On 3rd/4th and 1, DON'T RUN A SWEEP! This isn't Madden.

4. Put Carpenter in Bradie James' spot and keep Als at LOLB. This would likely fix several problems: (1) It would get someone with some speed playing the flats. (2) Carp might be better at shedding blockers and getting to a tackle (Bradie simply gets blocked out of plays). (3) We might actually be able to blitz up the middle with Carpenter. James can't. He simply CANNOT blitz.

5. Stunt some. Move players around some. Blitz on occasion, but never send 7 or more players. EVER.

6. Spend every waking moment getting Parrish ready to play FS.

Ok I would put Newman on an island on one side. Start Glenn on the other side of the field and give him help over the top (Watkins or Parrish). Start Henry instead of Singleton and have him man up on the TE, he is way too slow to cover any WRs in the league but he is solid vs the run and big enough to stay with a TE. Move Roy into the box to help vs the Run and pressuring the QB. If they are going to gamble it might as well be with Newman, force them to beat your best player.

It's strange that people are harping on Henry after he had such a good game.
