What a difference between this and last year's 2nd round

No need to take a guy like Jaylon Smith this year... the talent left at the top of the 2nd round is ridiculous. Dalvin Cook? Cam Robinson? Kevin King? Tyus Bowser? Sucks that we don't have the 4th pick this time.

Yeah, picking 28th makes a huge difference. However since this is a deep draft for what our defense needs. It makes it an interesting draft to watch to see if this defense can get fixed, or get a good start on it. Then round it off next year. Or fine tune it if it goes as plan this year.

who was the Oklahoma DE Cleveland took right before us Eman Ogbah?
How does Ogbah compare to Taco I wonder. Jaylon was a not their first choice.

I was curious how much it would cost to move up in the 2nd. I'm not advocating doing it, but I looked at last years trades to find a comparable.

Last year the Colts traded up in the 2nd round from #57 to #48. It cost them their 4th rounder (#125) and a 7th rounder (#248).

That is a pretty high cost - I would assume our 4th rounder #133 would move us up about 8 spots.

Cost is to steep IMO. There is enough talent in the second round, we can get a good player by staying put.
As there is good depth here, but not that much of a difference to give a way a draft pick for 8 to 10 slots.
We need players, and can get a S and and a CB tonight.
Then tomorrow in the 4th round, still get a decent player no matter what position.

True, but here's the thing: depending on how good Jaylon is this year, it will be like getting another 1st-3rd rounder. Personally, I don't think he'll be ready to set the league on fire like some here hope but he will contribute and make enough plays to be equal to a high 2nd rounder I would think. (yeah...I know, about where he was drafted) Can't wait to see this kid in action. I don't watch much pre-season anymore but I sure will this year.

I agree with you, a 4th rounder should be a quality player, maybe not a guaranteed starter but as you said, a chance at a decent player. Too much to give up to move that few spots.
