What am I missing about Twin Peaks?

I just watched the 90-minute first episode of the 1990's Twin Peaks. Thought I might give the show a watch before the new season comes out. I know about David Lynch's reputation of being a bit "out there" and I know that Twin Peaks has a massive cult following. I've even heard it called one of the greatest shows of all time.

That being said, the first episode was wildly disappointing. The acting was laughably bad, the story wasn't very compelling, and it wasn't even as "weird" as I was expecting. It was pretty generic. If I didn't know it was Twin Peaks, I would've thought it was just another bad 90's show that got cancelled after two seasons (it did).

What am I missing? Has it just not aged well? Have we been spoiled with shows like Breaking Bad and True Detective so much that we can't appreciate something that was revolutionary 25 years ago? Should I give it some more time? What is supposed to be so special about this show?

It was one of those mystery shows that sucked people in, Lost, Battle Star Galatica and others have emulated it since, these if done right will get positive attention. Lynch has always had a cult following and you either like it or not. Best way to describe it for me is some weird ***** just for the sake of it, don't look for meaning in everything.

Lastly it hasn't aged well but its also film noir which tends to have what you would call hammy acting. Other shows will l be regarded the same soon, such as the Sopranos which was really ground breaking, but tastes advance and what was once innovative becomes a trope. You could watch the first season and skip the rest for most enjoyment. Everything after the initial run is terrible.

This one is just down the road from my home. Went there for lunch Friday with my wife. I got a cheeseburger and she got the nachos. It's not great but it's not bad. My wife thinks they have the best nachos in town so we go 3 or 4 times a year. Only costs about $22 plus tip.

Oh wait.........

Went to a Twin Peaks in San Antonio last month, I asked the waitress "do you serve bunless burgers?" she responded, "none of our burgers have bones in them". LOL, she got a big tip.

Never could understand why people liked it and was really looking forward to the DUNE movie and after it came out I was so disappointed with it...I think Lynch Directed that as well. Man what a stinker of a movie which is a shame.

Get the hangover burger next time with the fried egg on it. When you squeeze the burger, and the yoke drips down... That's when the MAGIC happens. Oh, and use salsa/tobasco instead of ketchup.

Hopefully it will be much better.

I remember it being such a big hyped up movie and many of the Dune fans ( I was not a reader of the series) being so disappointed in the film.

You should read at least the first book if you get the chance. No adaption will ever compare.

There might be some books where a Movie will never do it COMPLETE justice...but there is never a book that a movie cannot be made from that is at least decent or ok. Looking back and watching the old IT and The Stand...they could have been done better but they were at least ok.

Dune was just a terrible movie. Maybe they need to stretch it out to two movies.

It was great for its time, but it's showing its age.
