What are the chances that Larry Allen and/or Key return?

Could it be that Larry Allen and Keyshawn Johnson were cut so that they can go establish their worth in the market? That way Dallas can decide if they want to re-sign them at the market price, instead of keeping them at their inflated price. Isn't it true that if you re-sign a player you cut, the cap hit left when you cut him can be re-adjusted based on the new contract you give him when you re-sign him? If so, is it possible that this is the plan with respect to LA and Key, as a way to keep them still but at more cap-frierndly salaries?

Sure it's possible but I dont think it's likely, especially with Key. No matter the type of attitude he has, he cant help but look at it like he was canned to make room for TO. That would only be human nature.

How many of us, if we were one of the top dogs at a company (and took alot of pride in being that) would go back to that company if they had cut us loose to bring in some supposed world beater to do our job under the premise that.. theres still a role for you, albeit a reduced one and at a reduced salary?

I would think pride would make it really hard to go back. Especially if either A) another outfit made it clear they wanted you, or B) you were stoopid enough rich that it didnt matter if you just retired and went on to other things in life.

Larry's case isnt so cut and dried because it's not like they brought in one of the recognized best Guards in the league to replace him. Plus his $ amount really was absurd.

True, but OTOH I think Bill would take Key back in a heartbeat.

I'm not so sure he's going to miss Larry all that much.

But I don't think either come back. No way Key will play second fiddle to Owens on the field or in the media.

I'd say none. Once you pull the band-aid off, you go get a new one.

slim to none.

both are proud warriors who felt disrespected. neither is what he used to be, though they could make one last hurrah for somebody. certainly not the with the boys. it's time to move on.

As far as bringing back LA I think we have two chances...Slim and None. If we were going to bring him back we would not have cut him; we would have restructured his deal. There is still a slight chance that we could get Keyshawn back but only slight.

not gonna happen. in larry's case his salary for this year was 3.5 mil, next years was 2.5 mil. you would have to resign him for less than that or you would have been better off to jusy let him play out his contract, and he will get more than 6 mil over the next 2 yrs on the open market
kj was cut because he wanted more money and there is no real place for him with t.o. on the team

Keyshawn- No way. The Giants offered him 3 million. He said no to that. No way are the Cowboys going to pay him that.
Larry Allen- it becomes a decision on when to move on. he was once the best O lineman in the game. That isn't so anymore. It is so hard to move on, but we have to eventually. I would love to bring him back!!

I think there's a better chance of Key coming back for more money than other teams offer, but there is absolutely no chance of Larry Allen coming back.

What would we be willing to pay Larry for next season? 2 million, 3 million, 4 million? He's not stupid enough to sign a new contract with us when he can pocket the 4 million for not playing with us. I'm not a financial wizard nor do I understand all the actual facts, but it seems to me LA would pocket his 4 million from the Cowboys and either play for someone else for additional money or he'd retire.

Besides, if we have to give him the 4 million anyway, then surely we'd never pay him much of anything for this year...if we even paid him 2 million, it would still cost us 6 million, and we cut him because he was going to make 7 million.

Just makes no sense any way I look at it.....Larry Allen is gone, for good.

Hopefully Larry comes back just once to retire as a Cowboy; then for his induction into ROH. Finally, the HOF. Go Larry.

Larry Allen doesn't get any new money for being released.

The 4 million is the cap charge that we get for his accelerated signging bonus. He already got the money when he signed.

I don't believe LA got any money for this season from the Cowboys. Thats why they cut him, to avoid paying him 2 million in roster bonus. Its his signing bonus from years ago that bumped his cap hit to 7.5 million.

I seriously doubt Larry Allen is coming back. The timing of his getting cut is interesting. Last Sunday (the 19th) was the start of the offseason conditioning program which, while not strictly mandatory, is still pretty much a given that you attend. As per an article written about his release:

"A source said the 12-year-veteran had been a no-show at the first two days of the team’s off-season workout program. Allen and his agent Marvin Demoff could not be reached for comment. Coach Bill Parcells could not be reached for comment."

LA was then cut on Tuesday the 22nd, after not even showing up to conditioning.

What that tells me was they were waiting for LA to show up to see if there was any tread at all left on that tire, he pulled a no-show, and that was pretty much the last straw and they cut him loose.

That is possible- its also possible he was told not to show up due to injury concerns and whether or not he was going to be cut. Hard to tell just what happened. BUT if he did a no show for the conditioning program- I could see BP looking at JJ and saying "THATS IT."

I dont believe either will happen...but I also believe everyone who posted is being a pessimist...I never heard Key talk one bad word toward the cowboys or TO...I actually heard the opposite....I heard him say he would love to play next to TO and there is the possibility of going back to the boys....although unlikely I believe...the Giants offering 3 mil? With Eli at QB and toomer and burress along with someone else.I believe they signed another WR didnt they? I dont believe Key would really like the situation there...Qbs too young and I believe a couple if not a few yrs away from a super bowl....New E Panthers or the Boys he goes...
