I don't believe any GM or owner until after the fact.
He got a "wardaddy" pick and used it to get Choice and Scandrick. I really don't think he regrets it.(and technically he traded the day before the draft, its on draft day that players don't hold as much value)

It will depend on who we get and/or target in the early rounds. Carp, Crayton and Ellis provide depth and we would be pencil thin in those positions without them. If they draft or target any of those positions in round two/three, look for them to be shopped, possibly to get into position to draft their replacement.

Just my two cents.

Say it ain't so...

Ellis being the best draft pick ever for Jerry is the saddest thing I have read all day... :(

He's not the best ever but he was the right pick at the time

Well... Moss may have turned out to be the better choice but after that you're right.

I'm an Ellis fan. It's too bad he had to play most of his career as the ONLY pass rushing threat on one of the weakest D-lines in Cowboy's history.

He may have been the right pick at the right time but from his perspective he might say he was in the wrong place at the wrong time.

I'd really rather not move Crayton. I know lots of people seem to hate him but I like the guy and I'd like to see him stick around.

Me too. I think the guy can play. He is tough and has great hands. I bet he has a great season this year.

I know he runs his gums but I think he has some talent.

I doubt we trade anyone this year. I think we will package a few picks to trade up in the 3rd and 4th rounds but I think the roster is pretty much set for the most part.

Don't forget, this team did go 13-3 just two seasons ago and I expect more of the same this year....I think people will be pleasantly suprised.

I can see Ellis being traded cause they're ready to really give the reigns to Spencer.

The thing here is that if either Ellis, Carp, or both are traded this weekend then they're going to have to use a couple of picks, maybe 3 or 4, on linebackers to give this team some depth back at the position.

I'm not saying I'm opposed to that, either, but it means we'll be looking pretty heavy at Linebacker, for certain, if we got rid of either, or both, of those guys.

IMO the Cowboys will draft that many LBs even if they do not trade Ellis or Carp. The 3-4 depends on this position group, and it is woefully thin. An injury to any of the starters could mean the season, even w/Ellis and Carpenter remaining as backups.

Just wondering what folks think are the odds that someone on the current roster gets traded this weekend. Heard one rumor that Greg Ellis was being shopped and we're always trying to push Carpenter onto Big Bill. I think theres a 70% chance someone gets traded.

8 to 5 and pick 'em.

Two things I don't understand,
1. Why would anyone trade anything for Carpenter? He has no value, he never plays, no one has any reason to think he will improve.

2. Everyone is putting way to much faith in our other OLBs. Ellis is still decent. Spencer hasn't shown anything, and we would be putting a lot of faith in him and/or a draft pick if we were to cut or trade Ellis. I'm not saying we shouldn't play Spencer, just that Ellis should be kept in case he sucks or gets hurt. And I don't think Ellis being 34 next season gives him too much value. Or do you want to give up a solid pass rusher just because he whines and you can maybe get a 5th rounder for him?
