I think this is the issue to this whole situation. I don't anticipate a formal offer with two 1sts being the compensation if the deal is not matched. Pickens agent and another team will agree on a long term deal, but only if Dallas plays ball on a trade.Teams can discuss a deal and if he agrees to one that team can notify the Cowboys prior to making a formal offer and ask what it will take in trade. If they don’t want to give up two firsts the Cowboys are free to agree to take less than that.
He'll have someone or multiple teams willing to pay him $30-$35M and his agent will go back to Jerry with that info. He'll say this is Pickens market value, you got him for a 3rd, sign him long term or trade him for a 1st or a 2nd. If Jerry balks at that, now you have a pissed off Pickens, with proof he could get more than $28-$30M and he feels we're keeping him from market value. Now, he's a locker room distraction and a problem. At this point you have to decide if you want the distraction or way less compensation.
I hated this idea. If he's gone, I doubt two 1sts are coming back.
