Ok....i have been thinking about this since the game....I tell myself, We have one of the better olines in football? Right? So then why cant we throw screen passes?? Are we saving them? Or, do we just not run them welll, and if not, why not?? I Honestly believe that we would have won that game on the last drive had we just said look lets run this offense out of the screen and then audible out of it if you see anything and at that audible to a run. Or am i missing something and we run screens all this time?

It has been awhile since we have been any good at it, although I did believe we would at least try this year with Dunbar.

I don't know if this might be the reason but it's at least something to consider. On screens, by design, you usually leave your QB unprotected. The idea is to draw the defense in and then, at the last second, dump the ball off. It may be that the Cowboys are hesitant to expose Romo.

I mean, I don't know, it is reasonable to assume the team avoids contact with Tony as much as is possible but I don't know if that's the reason they don't do it.

Screens also work best when you have an OL that has played together for awhile. Could be that the team just doesn't think the OL has enough chemistry to run the well yet. That could also be a reason.

Hard to say why they haven't used them much. I know this, not that the Skins have shown that heavy blitz packages can be successful against us, we are going to see more of them. Screens are one effective way of countering that so I do hope that we consider using them more.

We seem to have the athleticism on the OL for the screen game, it does take a lot of practice and coordination to make it work. The teams that do it well, generally do it a lot and there maybe something to the thought that they do not want to expose Romo this year, but it seems we have not done it well or a lot in a long time even before Romo's injury.

I think the reasoning behind why we didn't do it more, prior to Romo's injury, was the fact that Romo would rather use mobility to extend and create plays and the simple fact that we didn't really have a lot of mobility on the OL then.

I do agree with you thou, on the whole. I hope we are dusting those things off and practicing up on them. I also hope we are finally looking at using our backs in the passing game a lot more. That is a killer for heavy blitz packages. You can not account for it if the QB and the Backs execute it right. It's deadly.

The one they ran with weedon at QB was great. Martin was blocking 20 yards downfield. Martin gave his man an initial push then released and was truckin downfield. Think we will see more of that in the future.

I just feel like the screen would have helped a whole lot monday night i mean the looks they were giving us were ...REALLY?? you think you can do that and get away with it?? Just loft one to flat or to the middle of the field and there you go completion you hardley even have to plant your feet just kinda throw it dropping back....anyways point is Linehan either dosent know how to call plays or...Cole Beasley need to get off the field on third downs..i could swear every time he is on the fiels he is asking someone for the play he dosent know his plays

The screens is one way making a blitzing team(Commanders, cardinals to name a few) keep them honest and back them off from there aggressiveness..

to the post about protecting Romo... we sure weren't helping him Monday night with a season high 5 sacks with slow developing down field plays...

I can't remember anytime we were ever good at it at least in modern cowboy era, we either get it out too early or too late.

I think the personel on this team could get real good at running them if they employ it enough

i hope so..on one play...again tony calls the audible and u see...beasley turn both ways with his hands up...he then runs a route that dosent look at all right....those plays and routes are critical if one person is off the window for tony could be gone...But i could be wrong maybe Linehan just dosent like running crossing routes on third down on an all out look

When EaGirls late DC Jim Johnson used to send the all out blitz, we beat it with bubble screens, delay draws and slants.

That's how we beat them 2 games in a row in 2009. I don't know why these plays weren't used on Monday to beat the blitz. We also didn't see too many rub routes which can help beat the blitz.

Dallas has ran screens this year, Dallas played a bad game. We have faced blitz before this season and handled them well we did not in this game. I think people try to over analyze

It's pure stupidity why we don't do them more and why we only did it once when Weeden was in there. Washington had their way with us and it looked like screen passes weren't even an option when Romo was in there. They pretty much told us they were going to blitz and to try and stop them and we had no answer at all. Pathetic! I hope they learn how to do screens this week in practice because Arizona is the #1 blitzing team.

Like you said, they ran screens this year. That's why it's more mind boggling why they didn't run it as much as they should have on Monday night.

It's not like they haven't practiced it and used it.
