What are your feelings on Will McClay?

I think that this organization is too much of a melting pot of input and ideas to give Will any credit of blame.

I'll point to the "leaked audio" from the draft "war room" when they were making the Mazi pick. It wasn't one person saying let's do this or that, it was multi people giving input on what they should do and ultimately the Jones making the call.

That's why I don't look at picks or acquisitions as Will's "fault", I usually blame the position coordinator, the HC and Jerry for the choice.

Case in point, I recall, our DC at the time wanting Taco over TJ... scheme fit and size thing if memory serves... was it Will's fault they fell for the DC's pick and not the better player?
I believe that all the discussion regarding Mazie was just drama. The Cowboys knew or should have known who they were taking at that point long before it got to that point in time.

If the Cowboys truly did not know who they were going to pick prior to that moment then the Cowboys are more inept than any of us even thought they were.

It can be both.

None of those players are key contributors on those teams. These are premium day 1 and 2 picks, at best, in backup roles. Terrible draft picks.
Nashon Wright, Michael Jackson, and Clark are starting for playoff teams.

Approximately +45 players drafted by the Cowboys since 2013, McClay's start as VP of Player Personnel, have started or the Cowboys or other teams.

lukewarm at best,he whiffed big time before the last draft,he needs to hit on immediate contributors with our 1st RD picks

I'll give you Nashon; he's actually had an impactful year for the bears. But Clark is a JAG for Houston. He does not start; he's 3rd team on their depth chart and in 5 games has all of 7 tackles. He's just depth.

Jackson is a 5th rd pick from 2019. Doing prettywell in Carolina. But the topic here is recent premium day 1 and 2 picks that have busted.

Since he was promoted to VP of personel in 2017 his first round picks have included Taco, Mazi and LVE.

His hits have been Lamb and Parsons but are they really hits? Parsons was immature and traded and Lamb drops as many as he catches and hes also a head case, remember the aftermath of the Green Bay playoff game with his mom spouting of about Dak?

So taking all that into account id say hes a miserable failure.

Overrated
I think you are probably correct. However, the big if is whether he makes as many mistakes as we think he does, or whether his list is trumped by whatever the GM wants to do. If we are indeed selecting everyone in the order he presents, then he pretty much is no more then average and misses a lot more then he hits.

Assumptions about the Jones? After the past 30 years?
I said I didn't read it and I'm not reading this,

so, you can keep on we're just talking about Assumptions made about Will Mcclays role recently like last 5+years, that's it You keep pushing the 30 year narrative, i'm not going to listen, i'm not going to read,

i'm tired of hearing about it it's over get past it.

Stop, IM NOT joining your group..

I'm sorry that I didn't sign up for your pitchforks and torch club,

I try to stay more recent and we should really just stay in the last couple of seasons but it's very apparent that Will Mcclay has a strong voice and influence on this team if you don't say it I'm sorry I already said the Jones family still responsible because they own it and they make the final decision that doesn't mean the system isn't broke from within and from below They are listening too much to the coaching Staffs and to Will Mcclay his scouts and if you want something different you have to change what can be changed that would be Will Mcclay..

now let's move on jesus Louise this is a one off every year the football season changes the players change a lot of the coaches change things change..

This has been a year to year league for quite a while It's a week to week during the season things happen then you reevaluate that's it that's where I sit i'm not in your group that just keeps worrying about what happened 30 years ago up until now...

We cannot change the Jones family owning this team regardless if Jerry leaves or not we were already talking about the Raiders there's other threads to talk about this nonsense we're talking about will Mcclay influence on this team and if you can make a change where would it be well they only realistic thing we can believe and make a change would be right there Get rid of Will Mcclay all the scouts anybody else that's been under his wing and change it.

If you change the voice and the vision it changes the advice being given to Jerry in the Jones family maybe it would be better some people are calling him a yes man I doubt that too he doesn't need to be around for 30 years he could have got another job in this league He basically is the acting GM if you don't believe it I'm sorry i've seen it things have been changing the last 10 years but for sure the last five years you can tell Jerry has less influence and making less decision and he's leaning on these people for advice and that's what we're talking about...

Stop harping on the last 30 years, I do not care I stay in the moment and looking forward to 2026-27, that's it..

For a decade, no one was better. The number of pro bowlers the Cowboys drafted speaks for itself. But you’re not going to be on top forever. Yet again, Jerry missed an opportunity.

I think they have a board and based on the outcome of draft and options available to them, them make a decision when they have to.

I think you'd have to be pretty short sided and silly to just make a decision well in advance and just stick to it regardless of trade offers and who is actually available when you are on the clock.

They're absolutely hits.

For comparison, the two WRs drafted before CeeDee in 2020 were Jerry Jeudy and Henry Ruggs. The guy drafted one pick before Micah Parsons was Justin Fields. That's what missing looks like.

If draft misses can get voted to three All-Pro teams, then what does a hit look like.

My feeling is that they should make him the GM and have Jerry and Stephen back off so we can get a real evaluation.

Disagree because the post is about Will McClay and Jerry Dumbo GM Jones picks rounds 1-3 off the Board. Jerry drafts those medical picks like the broke neck and one legged LBs with the 1st and 2nd round picks.

I don't disagree.

Are his drafts as good as they're made out to be? I think he was once loved by a lot of fans or liked for better words. Now, I'm not sure how fans feel about him. Our drafts have been questionable, some players have worked out for us, and some haven't at all. He's going to be here for a while, and may even be our GM if Jerry ever leaves.

So I ask you, how do you feel about him going forward, are you ready to see him go, is he overrated, or you like the job he's doing? Please give your thoughts
How can you have an opinion???
