What can we do to beat these blitzes?

I know this was just one play but it seems like we see it far too often. Teams are also blitzing the A gaps far too often on first down and most of the time we run right into it. This is probably why we don't run much play-action from under center.

When I watch the Steelers play with their great running back, teams never blitz the A gaps and that is the main reason LeVeon Bell can be so patient. Most of Ben Roethlisberger's deep throws come off play-action on first down.

I would love to see us beat some of these blitzes and back those LBs out of the A-gaps and make them read and react. If that happens we will see Zeke become even more dangerous than he already is.

So my question is: What do we have to do to beat all these blitzes?

Shorter drops and get the ball out quickly. It's not rocket science. Of course, the QB has to identity the blitz and adjust accordingly at the LOS.

If we threw the slant more it would help alot of this. Dak did say that the hot read wasn't executed or the man didn't win on that play.

Main thing is get Tyron Smith back out there. Cleary did a decent job but Tyron does an excellent job. Also with Leary out it showed.

I'm pretty sure, on the play in the OP, both Witten and Dez were like 15 yards down the field.

If teams blitz like that and go man-to-man, I'm just throwing a slant or smoke to Dez every single time.

I don't think Dak has a problem against the blitz. However, I do think the protection has a problem when a blitz is disguised.

Looking at that GIF, I can say that the protection accounted for the LBs but not the slot.

All true, but we didn't play to win against the Eagles.

Players played to win, coaches played to get players some snaps and to protect injured players. I would not look at this game and ask what is wrong or Cowboys need to learn to pick up blitz when they have been this season and I expect will do so when the playoffs start and starters are back on the field.

The only way to consistently beat it is to see it before the snap.

That was perfect protection. They just brought one more player than Dallas had blockers. That means somebody is wide open or has one-on-one coverage.

Read it before the snap, and get the ball out immediately.

The LT got beat and it was not a blitz on that side. If the Left side was clean, Dak could have moved away from the blitzer.

Ideally you would like to throw to a receiver in the spot vacated by the blitzer. I'll need to review on the game film but it appears that the receiver didn't adjust with a hot route.

TWill often struggles to catch the ball on slant routes.

Dez does not run consistent and precise routes. If he is not where he needs to be on a slant, it's an easy INT for the defense.

The Cowboys do run some slants, but I think the reasons above cause them to limit how often they do it.
