What changed with Collins going from LG to RT?

As soon as Free (thankfully) hung it up, Red and the front office was quick to publicly state that Collins would stay at LG. That was repeated over and over by anyone in front of a mic. But now it's changed and Collins is taking all of his reps at RT. Assuming this isn't just an experiment, what changed? I think it's one of two things. Either Chaz still isn't healthy and the team has decided they can't count on him as a full time starter OR Cooper has made a big impression on them at LG. I certainly hope it's the latter but am afraid it's the former. Thoughts?

I thought he should have been RT all along. Too bad Free chose to retire after Leary left. At least, I think he did.

Unless Collins performs at a pro bowl level at RT they better put him back at guard.

I don't know but I'm enjoying seeing all the people who pretended they thought he couldn't play RT, because they assumed that's how the team saw it, now have to do a 180.

THAT is rather amusing. When a player in the toughest conference in College Football is outstanding at tackle, why so many think his only place was at guard is rather puzzling.

They don't think. They just regurgitate what the team appears to think.

Sometimes it backfires.

Thinking La'el Collins couldn't play RT in the NFL is about as dumb as thinking Phil Costa could play C.

Give it a rest. We still don't know what kind of tackle he'll be although I suspect good. He might be much better at G though.
So what you are saying is exactly what he was saying.

Great.

You are a little confused by the recent change of events and want to see what happens.

I understand.

This team's decisions confuse me too. But for different reasons than you.

I also know that Collins dominated at tackle playing at LSU. Maybe he is more comfortable playing tackle than guard? We have seen his quickness and rough demeanor on the field. If La'el can transfer that to the tackle position, I am hoping against hope he turns into another Erik Williams.

I might be reaching with that statement though.

Not the same at all. We don't even know if he can play tackle. Green may beat him out. He may move back to guard. His point was it is a fait accompli. Many here thought he'd be a better G which may still be the case not that he couldn't compete at tackle. I told you so goes over so poorly. How about we wait until we get into TC further.
